Both of my 03 RX1S have unusual rapid hyfax wear up front at the bend of the slide rails. One does have the wheel kit but still wear between the two wheels. I have been using the blue inexpensive hyfaxs. Should i go to graphite? Tracks are set extremely loose. Whats eveyone else using? What about going with bigger wheels?

A set on mine last 2000 miles??? stock ones at that! They do wear a little more up front but reach a certain point and stop then wear evenly from there. At the rate I'm riding this year I won't need a set till next season

Do you let them go beyond the wear mark line on the hyfax?

I went with graphite this season and less than 800 miles and both sides worn right through up front as well.I think its the crappy season this year ,thier is no base anywhere around here.Ive got 3000 miles on each set the first two years.Gravel roads arent even iced over.

The fact that you guys seam to be wearing slides up front sounds to me like there just isnt enough snow. If the snow isnt deep enough to get up to the front of the suspension it will cause accelerated wear.
I have the mono shock and I was missing my two inside rear idler wheels (like everyone else with this suspension, I was sick of replaceing wheels at $30 each) I made about 25 high speed passes on the lake right after it froze and there was only about 1 inch of snow on the ice. I had to replace my slides that week for the next weekend. We got quite a bit more snow in the mean time and I have since rode 300+miles and my slides look good. I ordered the rear inside idlers as well to see if that helps.
If your track isnt too tight and there dosnt seam to be any other explaination maybe its just lack of snow... Not sure but hope this helps...

No doubt it is the lack of snow. I just returned from a 370 mile Muni trip a couple weeks ago and my hyfax were wasted. My buddies SRX went through a set and a half. MDKUNI was with us and he blew throgh a couple wheels and his hyfax were shot as well. I personally did not think the conditiond were that bad. Maybe cuz every time I could hear my skis it was not ice under them, must have been the ground. I usually get 1800 miles out of a set of blue hyfax.

Can you have a track to loose that would cause some funny wearing?

hyfax wear
Seems odd to me that your hyfax on an Rx-1 is wearing there. My '05 wears at the back . Dad's Apex does the same. My SRX on the other hand would always wear at the bend in the rail.
On a side note, when exactly does everyone change their hyfax? I usually change it when it gets close to the line. Seems most times, though when I change it there is always a little more left than I thought. My SRX right now is about 1 mm away from the line and I'm thinking of not replacing it yet. I'm worried, though, because in the next few days we'll put on 300 mi or so. I've heard that just before it gets to the line it doesn't wear as fast and will be at that spot for awhile. Is this true?

Hyfax wear
Mine is the same(about 1mm) and I am planning a 500 mile trip.
Should be no problem. I carry my track loose, also have 1049 miles on the sled to date.
Don't forget that you have at least 1/8th inch above the line before you wear through to the rail.
Because I carry my track loose, I don't get the wear at the bend, only under my but!

if your track is to lose, it will cause funny wearing of your hi-fax, they will be wavy.... also if your track is to tight it will cause it to wear more in the front at the bend . track tension is very important!
i have actually had buddies cancel trips this year because they didn't want to burn up hi-fax or carbides because of low snow conditions!.. :ORC ... in these conditions it should be expected and personally i am willing to pay to replace a few sets of each to get out and enjoy my sled before spring time hits!!

hyfax wear
I put 1/8" larger idler wheels on my 04' RX1 and got 14000kms on original set of sliders. Sold my sled this year and they were still OK but I changed them for the new owner before I sold.

on my war i have already worn out a set at the bend. i only go out when there is at least 3" of fresh/loose snow lately. put a cheap kimpex set on with a marginal snow wheel kit i had in the garage. still wearing like nothin changed and the track is loose now. gonna try to suck up the front limiter a 1/2" and loosen the front shock in skid spring about the same to see if that makes a diference. bought a set of the old yamaha thin profile to try next as well.
the sad part is i dont even have 350 km's on this sled yet.

Sledheadd you are right. Had both RX1S up to Minocqua over the weekend with new slides on both of them. I had one racheting and gave it an extra half turn and it wore wavey. The other RX1 one was a little tighter and that one wore evenly. Looks like they are very particular were they need to be set at. THANKS EVERYONE.........P.S. i saw a ATTACK that just rocked up there in the radar runs.
