SLP hyfax anti wear pads

You better not be cutting a 1 1/8" HOLE in your track! :o|
All that is needed is a 1/4" HOLE which is accomplished with the 1/4" Track Drill, which is not really a drill but a HOLE PUNCH.
The 1/4" HOLE is all that is needed for the shank of the bolt! 8)

The 1 1/8" hole in the track is an alternative to using the SLP anti wear pads.

I feel it is more advantageousto drill the large holes as opposed to the wear pads as:

- easier/quicker to do
- cheaper
- lighter
- allows more snow in to cool the sliders more effectively

OK know that your explaining this method, I've got a better understanding of the objective! I had never heard of doing this!

I always cringe when a stud rips out and leaves a big hole in your track! So when I saw that you where taking a hole saw to your track! I said WOW! But now I get it! I know from using them (SLP anti-wear pads) that they work well! With the SLP anti-wear pads I got 5600 miles before changing my Hyfax and they could have gone longer! I believe they also give you a few MPH on the top and the track spins freely! ;)!

Yeah, I was leary about taking a holesaw to my track as well, but I've read a lot on the matter and haven't heard of anyone having a problem after drilling these holes. Also, a number of mountain riders cut even more and larger holes across the belt in the center of the track and I haven't found a post regarding track failure after doing this.

I figure if my track fails due to this mod, that I'll replace it with a fully clipped Arctic Cat Quiet track.

Can someone post a pic of them installed?? I know where they go, but just would like to get a visual...

The snow in Gogama is not that great...we have a foot in Gogama at most and there is hardly any base. I was in Shiningtree the other day and it is no different there either. The owner of Three Bears Camp bought a GT and can't ride much with it because of lack of snow. The lakes are fine, but that's about it. The groomers aren't out yet either which is unusual for this time of year. It should be fine by Jan 20th. I am a little frustrated because I can't go out and ride. I am not into spinning up rocks and wearing my carbides.

Are you staying in Shiningtree?

I used a rotozip to cut out the windows last year. I cut them out rectangular so that I could clip them if needed.

Seems to work better. I think it even reduced the track howl noise that I had.

As far as the bolts go, they are just cold head studs similar to the ones used for projection welding . I decided to wait to see if they are actually necessary. I think the holes will make a big difference so why add the weight. Time will tell.

Yes at the Three Bears. It's a yearly thing for us to go to Three Bears, were kinda bummed Cindy is no longer there.

Added the SLP anti-wear pads to my sled today. After about 1/2 way through the install the track got VERY noticably easier to turn to line up the next window and thats because the first row of SLP pads had made it's way to the front of the hifax. These really work.

The SLP's are carriage bolts just stamped to flatting them a bit. If you go to Ace hardware you can pick up elevator bolts which are about the same thing only completely flat on top.
But they are not the same the slp's have a dome shape and are stainless steel...What would those elevator bolts do to your hyfax after they sit and rust up? And I priced it out it wasn't much cheaper at a hardware store if at all...

My SLPs pads don't appear to be stainless, they look coated or plated. But I could be wrong.

I just got them in the mail today & yes, they are domed. I sell & install elevators for a living & know what elevator bolts look like. No way you should cheap out & buy those. Here's a picture.......
