hyfax wear/wheels

With the low snow conditions here the last few years, my hyfax have been taking a beating, especially at the bend. Has anyone found a wheel set up you can place in that area to slow down some of the wear?
I was looking at something like this

I dont know if there is enough meat there to support just a single small wheel...

Rich Why not get the bigger billet Idlers from JT and the mounting hardware from Partzilla. Just picked that stuff up for the XTX at about the same cost and I think it's a real solid set up with better wheels and bearings.

I did see a kit for the old Firecat chassis, I wonder if that would work on our rails?

I had something similar on my apex but they didn’t last very long, being small diameter and running for prolonged high speed trail running don’t go to good together.

If your a high mileage guy you might want to avoid the small wheels altogether. If you use them mounting brackets are a must that attach to rails , stay away from mounting them with just a hole and bolt thur rail.. Better option would be taking some pressure off front of suspension . You can run a bit oversize wheels, ( not cheap ) you can soften front spring, you can suck limiter strap up one hole, you could also try and raise front suspension arm into top hole on tunnel which should take pressure off during transfer..I did run those small wheels on a Apex for 16 years and had no trouble but thats was a Mono suspension which is way different than pro cross.

I tried the Schmidt Bros hyfax saver wheel kit for a couple of seasons for the wear at the bend. It has small wheels on a shaft that bolts between the rails in that location (have to drill holes for it). It worked good but didn't last. The bearings in the small wheels went out one time destroying the shaft and spacers and, after replacing those parts, I bent the shaft another time on a hard hit. I am not running it anymore. All of this happened in around 1500 miles.

I think if we can find a 5.75-5.8" wheel to replace the 5.5" ones before the bend it would work

Running a tighter track prevents the wip of track as it comes off the drivers from happening and causing excessive wear at the bend.
Running a studded track adjusted with no sag off the rails when rear of sled is lifted off ground works good.
Riding in snow also helps....

check with your local Ski-Doo dealer as they have all kinds of oversized suspension wheels in many sizes, and colors and designs. Used on Apex and never had to replaced Hy-Fax after install for over 5000 miles of groom trail riding.

I never had a problem before on my other Pro-cross's, hyfax would last 5-6k miles or more.
It is these low snow condition that are killing my hyfax.....and wheels, and studs, and wear bars. I am getting tired of it

I took a wheel off the sled and took it with me and they measured it and asked them to give me 1/8” larger diameter and I don’t recall actual size that was back in 2006 a long time ago.. After installing I think four or six oversize and small wheel kit from Yamaha that sled would ride on pure ice and not wear hyfax.. You still need lube for the cooling of the motor no matter so you got to keep a eye on that….

I guess were very lucky where Iam at, cause we been riding pretty much every day for a month now… Last three weeks has been snow ( Lake effect ) 16 out of 21 days… Lakes now have a foot of ice and wet spots have hardened up…This winter has turned out to be like a winter we use to have , a real winter where temperatures remains under freezing for the majority of days and pretty much every night.. yes we are very fortunate…
