ICE buildup in tunnel

I know this question has been asked in the past, I just wanted to see if anyone had any updates on what was successfull for them to minimize ice buildup in the tunnel. I have a 2010 vector ltx any time I ride in colder temperatures I get a huge amount of ice in my tunnel especially near the muffler, i have tried picking it up and banging it off and reversing the track to spin it out, I have used a mallet and screw driver to chip some away. I chipped away almost 30 pounds of ice after one long ride. When i am going slow i can hear the track grinding against the ice. I know why it does this and I understand it is commom with other yamaha models.

I am just wondering if yamaha has come up with anything that will fix/minimize this problem??

I am ordering some of this product noted in the link below and will try spraying it under the machine when it arrives to see if it helps to reduce the ice builup

This problem really pisses me off and cannot be goot for the track and other parts. It is also make a heavy machine even heavier.
 

there was talk about same kind of products in sno-tech mag and they tried it out and said it worked well also do you have a rear heat exchanger if you don't i would recommend it i did and it help to get rid of some of the build up.
 
on my wifes attak I cut the bars under the tunnel off..she does not have studs.so there is no danger if the track hits on big bumps(never happened )..now there is way less build up under the tunnel..those bars just hold snow,there are none on my sled..so did it to hers.now you can put a bigger lug track on..and avids..lol..

Removing the tunnel protectors helps. I don't use studs so it isn't an issue. I have had my 1.5" track touch the tunnel on a big bump but have not seen any damage. The ZX2 suspension I am running helps as well. The ice doesn't stick to the plastic suspension as much.

I mud drag trucks in the summer and spray the intire bottom of truck with wd40 and this prevents most of the mud from sticking I don't know if this will work with ice but it won't hurt to try and maybe somebody has and can chime in and tell us if it does hope this helps
 
Here is how i fixed my LTX ice buildup problem: Put a hot outside hose bib near where you park your trailer , get a hose that is rated for hot water and wash it down.

That works great when youre at home but I think were looking for solutions down the trail. The rear heat exchanger on the '11s has made a difference compared to my 07 but i can still pull out a 20L pail or about 40lbs worth at the end of the day. If a guy could keep it virtually ice free it would be a benefit to all because im sure when its race time were adding on at least 20lbs yet lol. Bonus on the '11s is when stopped at a shack you can pretty much remove all the ice since theres a ton of space underneath
 
rear heat exchanger

My vector ltx gt is a 2010 model, I was under the impression that it was identical to to 2011 model. I hate to sound dumb but what exactly is a rear heat exchanger? how can i tell if I have one?

I am removing the tunnel protectors asap because I have no intention of ever running a studded track.

I dont have a heated garage and the solutions I am looking for are when I am out on long rides far from home.

A rear heat exchanger is an aluminum piece, hollow and with lots of surface area, that acts like a radiator by dissipating heat from the antifreeze running through it. It replaces the simple tube connecting the two heat exchangers under the running boards.

If you look at the back underside of the sled there will be either an aluminum tube or a heat exchanger connecting them.


I have a rear exchanger on my Apex, not on my Venture, it cuts down on ice build up but does not eliminate it.

I also have the 2010 ltx just got it, anyway there is a rear heat exchanger under the tunnel extension, ribbed aluminum as the previous poster said, connecting the the pipes from the side exchangers that are under the foot boards. Don't think there is a protector unless you had a dealer install studs.

The tunnel protecters are two 1" sq. aluminum tube running parallel along the top of the tunnel.

When I upgrade to a new vector ltx I will get the remote adj. close and then remove the whole thing. You can still adj. the shock with a small pocket screwdriver.

On the rage the plastic guide to protect the RA holds the track up abit on the left side and adjusting the track to run true was harder, plus the RA held alot of ice.
 
it definately has the tunnel protectors installed from the factory, i am having them removed tommorrow, i have not had a chance to look to see if it does in fact have the rear heat exchanger, i assume if yours is also a 2010 vector ltx then mine must have one as well
 
oops

my bad, I was speaking of the additional tunnel protector they put on at the back to eliminate damage to the rear exchanger. It definitely has the ones that run the length front to back, and it definitely has the rear heat exchanger.

Not sure if your sled has the tunnel protectors, but I removed them on my Nytro XTX and it made a huge improvment.
