Ice in Tunnel

Is the hole really required. Would the heat actually reduce HP or hurt the engine. I certainly wouldn't mind closing it in. Not only is there ice build up, but it makes for a wet back side.

maybe it'll melt the seat if its not cooled?

When I first looked at it that was my tought too but I cant se why the seat should melt if you look at the turbo kit mcx have made for this sled. Think the turbo get just as hot as the stock exhaust. Havent heard of anybody with a turbo phazer jet that have had theyr #*$&@ on fire.

I wonder why the snow/ICE issue did not come up in the demo rides last year. Snow is one thing, but man that ice is going to cause a lot of damage over time. My understanding is that the turbo creates A LOT of heat. If it can be closed in, I don't know why the stock exhaust couldn't be. I am sure though that if something did happen with the tunnel closed in, they would use that to void the warranty.

Thinking the same but if something happens we can always open the tunnel up again before deliviering sled to dealer, or...? Except if the seat/plastic is melted down.

One thing for sure is that yamaha have had false marketing materials on this sled.

This aint the sled that I ordered. The one I ordered had according to theyr web page and also paper brochure no hole in the tunnel...

My MCX TURBO , has gone only 55 miles so far , because our snow is now gone , I took the seat off last nite and had a good look ,

No damage , from heat at all , my sled has the turbo plus the muffler as seen in the above picture !

Close in the hole !!

That's what I was wondering. All the pictures on the Yamaha website show no hole.

What if you closed the hole, added a heat xchange like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-Ski ... enameZWDVW

That would give the sled better cooling and provide heat under tunnel to keep it clear. Yes it will add some lbs. but the way I see it there will be less over all lbs without the ice build up.

This is the reeason I am waiting till next year to go with the mountain lite. Hopefully Yamaha will fix these little issues.

Guys here's a new product that is SUPPOSED to eliminate the ice build up problem. I found the info on snowest a couple years ago. I called to order what had been suggested and was told that the product I was asking for was designed for fiberglass hulls not aluminum tunnels.

BUT.........as luck would have it they just developed this new product specifically for the needs of snowmobilers (and anyone using a snowblower because of snow build up in the chutes).

I ordered it and it arrived last night. I haven't tried it yet but here's a link. If it works as advertised it will be well worth the money.

Go to "Breaking News" and you can read all about it.

Best of luck.

how about PAM or teflon "no stick" coating? ok ok just an idea.

lol that is what i was gonna suggest. works well on the snow shovel and plw.

Theres the Teflon or theres just kicking it off now and then...

GUYS! This happened on my Attak. I had 30 lb's of ice on the inside of the tunnel. Except it was harder to get to on the Attak. Just kick it off now and then, don't put the sled away with ice on it and it won't freeze up solid.

I swear some of you are just looking for problems.

I'll second that. This is no different than ANY of the 4-stroke sleds. They all have the exhaust open to the snow causing the melted mess to drip down onto the track. Now the difference is you can SEE it.

I third that. I've ran fan cooled all my life (no heat exchangers) and I would ice them up like that. It's really not hard to just knock it off at the end of the day.
