So I just noticed my outside lower 2 idler wheels are not spinning like they should and I have a trip planned. I started to take it off to replace but got nervous with the tension of the spring that comes down and hooks behind it. How difficult will it be to put back together it I take this apart. Any help would be appreciated.
Also can the upper idlers be changed without pulling the skid?
Thanks

- Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
Well somebody with this skid currently may chime in. I had this skid on my 05 Vector for a short time. I don't remember where/what the torsion spring hooks to. Bottom line, removing it isn't a big deal....just take it slow the first time.
Loosen your track
Take pressure off springs as noted above and let the forward arm of the spring down naturally
Remove the two molts holding the rear arm of the skid into the tunnel
Lift the rear of the sled. Chain hoist? Sled lift?
The rear of the skid will drop out exposing the upper wheels
Change both upper (??) and lower wheels
Reverse process to reassemble.
Make sure to use BLUE Loctite on the bolts that hold the rear arm in the tunnel. WIre brush the threads before applying Loctite
Adjust track. Track tension is personal choice but on an unstudded track I use the "Boy Scout Salute" 3 finger method. If I can get 3 fingers between the track and the rail it's good.
Make sure to adjust your track so it's running straight.
