I have an 05 RX-1 ER shorty that had the 06 updates this fall. The dealer installed a new w arm, bushings with grease fittings, and a new RA cable and boot. After riding another season, the RA cable is seized again, and the rails are cracked. Is this still waranteed since Yamaha already fixed this once? I have the extended 5 year warranty. Haven't gone to the dealer yet, just curious if anyone else has had this problem? Thanks.

Sounds like its time to ditch the mono. Might as well build the Vector skid to suit all the sleds. Looks like a good design on paper, but it seems like the mono just wont hold up.

They just went too far with their lightweight addiction. Add more metal to the weak points and it would hold up fine.

I remember a few months ago, someone here (who was a machinist) had little plates of steel he had made to reinforce the rails. Anybody buy these and have good luck? Can anyone point me to that original thread so I can purchase a set? Thanks.

Highmiler no need to ditch your mono, ask your dealer to call his service tech at Yamaha and ask for the '05 RX-1 rail reinforcement kit. Snowdog just went through this, his dealer did all the updates but never added the rail reinforcement plates when he put the new rails on and his rails cracked.
If you cracked the rails before and the reinforcement plates aren't added to the new rails you'll probably crack them again..

I have an 05 with the Mono. I haven't had any problems YET! Should these updates have been done automaticly by the dealer? I know I am out of the warrenty period, should these still ge covered? It seems we call these types of claims updates if it were a car or truck we would call them recalls! Or do I missunderstand what is being posted?

You have the 5 year warranty. YES, it will be fixed.

They should be covered. Its an update, not a warranty situation. Contact your dealer, they should be able to help you.

Are they supposed to update all the 05 Monos brought in or just the ones with problems. I haven't put enough miles on to see these problems, but I don't want to have them while I'm on a trip.
I wrecked the sled at 495 mi. I had the skid out to inspect it and it was fine except for the axle shaft wear and lack of lubrication. I'm sure that when I take it apart this spring I'll find that main axle has a lot more wear.

Well after calling Yamaha when I got home from up north, they got a hold of the dealer. The dealer called me today and said that they were not told anything about the plates for the rails otherwise they would have been installed. As far as the dealer knew, the 06 rails were just beefed up with more material. Acording to the dealer, there was no part number available to them for the reinforcement kit and thats why they were not installed. They knew nothing about the plates and they were just told about the kits this last week after I picked up my sled. Acoording to the dealer, Yamaha will be sending yet another set of 06 rails since I totalled these in 700 miles due to no plates on them. The 06 rails are actually weaker than the 05's without the kit since on the 06's there are holes for the plates pre drilled in the rails making it a weak point on the rail. Why yamaha did not send these already installed on the rails or a kit with a bulletin I don't know. You would think they would know these would not live at all with the holes empty.
Looks like I will have 06 rails with the kit so we'll see how it holds up next season. It's under warranty until 08 so if it don't hold up, I toss on new rails and off it goes. Then I smoke up a new RTX WITHOUT the mono!

Now if I could just figure out why the track is wearing again. My old one was looking really bad...and now the new one is starting to do the same thing after 700 miles.

There were guys getting the updates even if there weren't any problems. The problem will happen sooner or later, get it taken care of now.

Where is your track wearing? Snowdog are you telling me that since I have the 5 year warranty, and rails are cracked, I'll get new 06 rails with the reinforcements? What is w arm breaks again? Will I get a new one of those? (It would be the 3rd time)

If it's your 3rd time I would say you need to tell you dealer you will not take anything but the 06 rails with the reinforcements! If you don't get anywhere you need to call Yamaha customer relations. Once I talked to them my dealer called me back within hours telling me new parts were on the way.
My track is wearing right down the center. This is my second track doing the same thing. I have plenty of clearance between the shock and the track when the sled is sitting on the ground. I am thinking the track is stretching as it wears in and then ballooning into the shock on either acceleration or deceleration. I will have to tighten and see if that helps. I just like to try and run it a shade loose due to the hyfax wear, but since I started running the Polaris 5.35 wheels that seems to have helped on the hyfax a lot.
