Installing Extroverts on XTX

I just put Avid extroverts on mine and the first time I had issues where the track rode over to the left. The drivers were put on centered on the holes but were 3/16" to far to the left. When the track ran it rode over to the left as far as it could, this caused it to rub on the arm that held the back upper wheels.

I ended up moving the right driver over 3/16". This made the drivers not centered on the windows but about 1/8" away from the outside of each window. Track rides nice and centered now.

Sounds like other people also space them out so the track can not wonder back and forth too much.

Now I just need to trim the rails, for some reason I thought I did not have to do that on the XTX. I did make a few marks on the caps, drivers look good. The Avid plastic seems to be pretty tough.

Great info, thank you. One more question: Do you think skid compression would lessen with the shocks & springs installed ? Is there more movement in the skid w/out springs and shocks ? I have mine apart at the moment, I could leave the shocks in place and remove the springs and check for clearence. Sorry for all the Q's.

Rail position shouldn't change when the springs/shocks are installed. It is the suspension arms that dictate where the rail position is going to be forward and aft wise. I had them out because it was way easier to work with when checking for clearance issues.
They contact the driver teeth when the front of the rail is pushed up, while the back is still down. For example when approaching a large sharp bump, the front of the skid will compress first.
Here is a pic of the clearance, after the rails were trimmed http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=63069&start=15

Thanks Dan for you and your wife's help !!

Mtniper, you are a wealth of info, thank you also.

I cut mine last night, a little less than 3/4" ( made my cut at the rear side of the stock rivit holes for the plastic cover ) ) I'm leaving the front of the hyfax stock and redrilling the rail further back, one side is done and it came out nice. ;-)

Anyone got measurments for the -10 xtx it´s got a longer driveshaft?? in metric please. Doo drivers.

Got it all together and went out for the first ride, big improvment, zero racheting, even though it was a very big job it was worth it, you can rail right over the whoops w/out any worries.

Glad everything worked out fine for you. Just had the dealer install trail tank + Backcountry 1.75" track on my XTX. Went for a run around my field, never ratcheted even at WOT. Any ideas? Track doesn't seem CRAZY tight. No extroverts.

Hooks up like crazy in the 16 inches of snow we just got.

instead of adding the rail cap you can install a set of antistab wheels from wahl....
