I'm putting a 90 left hand hook on my warrior, how far can I cut the grip without damage to the heater? Can I cut it flush with the end of bar?(removing all the grip knob)Thanks alot! Jay

I have this same question. I'd like to put 45's on both sides, but with stock grips if you just cut out the end, you're gonna have that knob on the end of the grip still. Can we cut them back to where the taper starts without getting into the wires? Please help us out here guys.

hand warmers

Yes Guys you can trim the grips flush with the end of the bars, done it to every Yammie that I own without a problem. The heating element doesnt roll over the edge otherwise the movement of your hands while riding would destroy it.

I would not cut the end of the grip off as the heating element goes right out to the end. What I do is enlarge the center hole in the end of the grip with a drill bit and then carefully trim it out so that the hole in the same size as the handlebars inside diameter.
As for the knob, I use a razor knife and again, very carefully and slowly trim it down. Don't go beyond the outer diameter of the rest of the grip or you will hit plastic and possibly heating wires.

I've found that a dremel tool with a barrel sander attachment works great for smoothing down the knob part of the grip.

Great suggestions guys, keep them coming. Also, anyone know where to buy hooks the same outside diamater as the grips? All theh ones I've seen are about 7/8" to match the bar, not the grip. It would be nice to have a smooth transition to the hook like the 06's have.

Hi,just picked up my hook from Yamaha,(out of acc. cat.)and the instructions say to cut the grip back to "flush" with handlebar. They reccomend a utility knife!Haven't done it yet,do they know what the're talking about? Jay

Do NOT cut the end of the grip off, you will ruin the warmer element. Simply enlarge the hole in the end of the grip enough to push the small diameter part of the hook through and into the bar.

Chance, my man, that isn't quite correct. The wiring DOES NOT run into the knob on the grip, as a matter of fact if you look closely you can see the cross-hatched pattern of wires in the grip material. I used a razor knife to cut the knob off flush with the end of the bars and no problems whatever with the warmers. Just be careful when doing the job and take your time.
