So most people out west here been install the CAI through the hood. I’d rather not go that route for a few reasons, tree bashing worried about catching it, using a cover would be supper pita, my turbo apex would always form ice chunks on the metal filter housing and break off.

Thinking of adding the 18 instrument panel, which has the extra screens on top compared to my 17. Also I was going to ditch the air filter and possibly just put a outerwears cover over the filter frame. Basically for a little added protection in case something get through the instrument panel.

The air filter really is only the for protection from objects in my opinion. No need to filter the air on snow in winter. Also I find it get oily often and wet. Worried about it being frozen in the mornings.

Anyone run across a prefilter sized to fit the shape of the air filter?

Filter air on SNOW, don’t let ice crystals get to the turbo, not good! That’s why a lot have k&n filter.

With the prefilter on the instrument panel and putting one around the filter cage will be covered.

Out west with the cold air intake , the foam filter assembly comes out. All that’s there is the metal housing with prefilter. Been doing that since 2006 on 4 strokes. I’d rather not now due to going through the hood.

K&N does not work here with snow covering it all the time. It actually sucks the filter together. Seen it personally.

yes a hydrophobic prefilter over the cage is a good idea and should work...for that matter Ive thought of just running over the intake runner tube to free up air to the clutches!

Don’t mean to hack this thread but guys with cai under the hood vs stock. Can you hear a difference between the two when riding?
