I just took out my sled from summer storage and fired it up. I think I did not have this rattle last season:

What can possibly happen during summer storage? Could it be that the iddle speed is lower because of old fuel maybe and low iddle rpm is causing the noise? What should the iddle rpm be?
I took the sled out for a 30 min drive but having the engine hot did not afffect the noise.
The sled is 2004 Warrior and has 2.800 miles on it.

my 05 and 04 made the identical sound at low idle, i put a hauck clutch kit on both machines, and the installer mentioned something about a shim kit that was updated. stopped making the noise after the install, also when my 05 produced this noise, it would decimate belts like crazy, the 04 not soo much. maybe someone can confirm this. but its def. the clutch

Take the clutch apart and inspect parts for wear and clean everything up. Put it back on see if the noise foes away.

Sounds like it is missing! If it is it will not run smooth and you will hear the pin's, roller's etc rattle from the pulse/Rough idle. kviper
To me it sounds like the engine is running realy rough, likely one carb/cylinder isn't the same as the rest. I would do a compression test/sparkplug inspection and then remove the carbs and inspect for goo.....
Clutches just don't go bad like that over the storage season.

Clean your pilots real well & /or turn up your idle.
Clutch rattle is normal on a lot of 4 strokes.

Youre dead on right. Clutches dont go bad but fuel does. My sled was being serviced by a Yamaha tehcnican before I caraged it for the summer. New plugs, filters, oils, suspension serviced etc. A bill over 500 euros (600 USD).
Seems like my engine idles rough like you said. One cylinder is not running all the time on idle. Idle speed is aroun 1.000 to 1.200 rpm. When I give it a bit throttle to rise rpm to 1.500 (where the idle should be I think) the rattle completely goes away.
There might be clogged gas in carburetors. In finland thy have increased the amount of alcohol they mix in fuel. This may have something to do with it.
Here is what I am going to do. I am going to ride the sled for some time and see if it will start idling higher and smoother. I will put some new gas in tank.
You might not want to ride and see if it will clear up because if you run it lean you will blow the motor if you take the time now to clean carbs you won't have to rebuild the motor later just do it if for nothing else but for price of mind hope this helps and food luck

Clutch's do go bad at least parts of them do, check the pins, rollers, and bushings, then sync your carbs raise the idle a little and you wont have any noise.

Though I am not quite sure if you have a blocked jet problem(doe's it run better with some choke?) its, best to clean the jets/carbs first, its not good to be running it like that either way. Then have it synchronized. Yamaha Fuel stabilizer relay helps for the storage season , that and you should drain your carbs at the end of the season. I also add marine fogging oil to the cylinders for storage.

I'm snowmobile stupid when it comes to maintenance and don't want any problems once the snow flies. I did check with my local dealer and he stated that clutch noise was common on these sleds.
Yes some noise is common especially if the engine is idling around 900~1000 rpm when cold, but once warm and at 1400~1500 rpm it should be for the most part smooth.

My 05 was doing the same thing. Cleaned the carbs and drained the tank yesterday. Filled her up with new gas and it idles perfect with no clutch noise.

I just took out my attak from summer storage and fired it up sounded about the same! I drained the old gas and put in fresh gas. The idle soothed out, the clutch rattle And the hard starting went away. I would give that a try first.
