Help me out guys and girls. Firstly, i cannot afford a new vector or apex. So since i am sold on the 4 stroke i can choose between a used vector/ apex or the new phazer.
This will be my first real mtn sled, i had one when i was younger and have riden dirt bikes all my life. li am in southeastern bc canada so we have lots of light fluffy snow.
my one concern with the phazer is that it will not have the power to get me to the top. however, i am only 155 lbs. and the fact that the phazer will ride like a dirt bike might make up for its lack of power.
so what do you guys think will the phazer mtn be a good choice for my first mtn sled

I had to ask the same thing about a month ago when trying to decide. I don't have mountains to ride in, but lots of flatland powder. I'm in the same financial situation, so I can't dump a load of money on a big bore right now. My only comments about this sled having enough power for you are based on magazines like snotech. If they are correct, you don't have anything to worry about, while you won't perform like a full bore sled, you won't be without enough power either. I'm only 130 pounds, and that's a bonus on sleds like these. I can't wait to play with this thing in the powder. My primary sled is a rev, but I'm fed up with BRP's crappy motors. Yammi's 4 strokes just keep getting better. This moutain lite will be a second sled for me to play with and for when my rev is in the shop under warranty. If it proves itself, when my warranty is up in 2 years on the rev, I'll be getting a big bore yammi. As a first mountain sled, I think the mountain lite would be an awesome choice...but the truth will be told when the owners on here get out this season and give us some feedback.

thanks for the feedback. your comments made me think of another issue. how do you think they will hold their re-sale value? i could see myself getting one and having a tonne of fun and then wanting to upgrade next year. i bet next year they make it with a 151x 15 track and a bit more power to.

you sound like me. mtn lite is my first sled. ridden plenty but never owned, until now. that yamaha phazer caught my eye.
i'm about 150lbs.. 175 with all my gear and snowboard. i got the sled for backcountry snowboarding access and just to tool around in the hills. it's not gonna be the greatest highmarking mountain sled ever but i'm sure its going to do fine bookdocking and getting you where you need to go in the hills. a lot of the people that are talking trash about the phazer are like 250 lbs or over, i mean that 100 lbs of body weight alone is going to make a difference. you can't beat the 4stroke technology and i know there are going to be lots of performance parts out for the phazer. already dynotechresearch posted a simple mod of the airbox that pulls 2-3+hp over stock. just think about this, with a light nimble sled with a 144 you'll be able to go places your bros on the huge 162" mountain sleds can't. you won't be winning any highmark comps though.
sorry for the ramble.. go for the mtn lite

hey if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for yours? i also did a quick look for warrantee information on yamahas website and didn't see anything. do they come with a two year warrantee?

it depends i think if your CAN or US. for US i got a 1 year factory warranty and i paid $600 for a 3 year Y.E.S (yamaha extended service) warranty. if i don't make any claims at the end of the 3 years, i get all that money back.
just don't let your dealer sell you a maintenance plan.. you won't need it

Canadian offers seem to be 1 year of warranty plus $400 in yamabucks, then there's some financing deals, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years with a decent 2 year rate.
I'm getting mine for $8900 Canadian, below msrp so I'm happy considering dealers here usually charge $400 above msrp.

and about selling it, as with any sled, if you have the time, you'll find a buyer...I don't think it will be a hard sled to get rid of, the price is right and it not only appeals to adults but some parents might look at these sleds for their kids.

im about 120 punds (14 years old) getting an FX, and it has plenty of power for my dad 200pounds and has more tourqu than our Rage my dad says. I would think that it will have plenty of power for you. I watched a 300 pund guys go off a 5 ft jump and the phazer landed with no troubbles.

yeah a 120lb kid on this thing its going to fly, and be a nice sled
for you Phazerdude... I'm around 175 or so, and I've ridden the
mtn lite, and its more than enough sled for me... I've ridden a
few different sleds, and honestly don't see my need for 150hp+
it would just get me in trouble. And believe me I get in enough
trouble with my 95 XCR 600 (modded) and I fully expect to
break something on the Phazer... just I hope not this season...
as it would really SUCK.

I just took a Phazer FX for a demo ride in the sod at Haydays. I was impressed with the low end torque. I also tried out an Apex, and yes if you compare the Phazer to an Apex there is no comparison. But, if you are not looking to be the fastest person out there or the guy that gets the highmark I wouldn't worry about it. I think it would be a very fun sled for all around riding. It is a sled you can ride and not a sled you have to drive. You should be able to throw it around and have fun with it. If I didn't just buy a Rage last year I would probably be buying a Phazer this year.
Oh well, maybe I can afford the latest and greatest iron next year.

You guys that are only 155 or 175lbs remember for every 10 lbs less of weight that is like 1 extra HP. I think this sled will pleasantly surprise a lot of people. The big bore Apex are are at least 100 lbs heavier that is why the big guys need that HP. With the light sled and your light weight and think of the handling and wrestling it around you will be doing. I think you may find yourself right their with the bigger guys on the bigger stock sleds no problem.
