JACK SHAFT BEARING NEEDED!

Vt, if your bearing isnt completely shot to hell yet, pull the dust cap off and clean well and repack with grease, if its to late cut the shoulder off of the old bearing and put against a new regular bearing of same size, it will get you through the rest of the year, i had to do that about 400 miles ago as they were backordered then and its been fine, ill try to find the bearing number for ya, i got it at local auto parts, its the same as oem but without the collar

bearing

6206 will fit but the taperd spacer will not. so you ether have to wait or make spacer that will work with a 6206 bearing. i made one out of and iner race of a polaries jack shaft bearing 8)

If the tapered bearing and the tapered coolar and the shaft arn't perfrect you likely have trouble. A friend of mine had a bearing changed and 400 miles later the collar worked it's way towards the chain case. Tried to fix it with not all new parts, it ruined the shaft, bearing, and collar. Due to the shortage of parts I think he tack welded the bearing to the collar. So far I'm glad mine has'nt flew apart yet.

VTRX-1:

I get all of my bearings, for my sleds and multi$M hitech equipment, from a local bearing supplier in Danbury CT. The name of the company is Sam Dallas Inc.. The phone no. is 203-743-6749. Not only have they had top quality bearings in stock, they were less expensive than from Yamaha and right off their shelf. Give them a call, get the numbers right off the existing bearing. They should be able to help. If they have the bearing but can't overnight ship it, I'll pick it up and get it shipped ASAP to you. My cell phone no. is 914-494-6924, give me a call if I can help.

Can anyone tell me the procedure to remove the jackshaft bearing on an 03? I've got 5K miles on it, sounds and looks fine but I'd rather take it out to feel and listen to it to determine if it's OK. I'll probably just replace it since it has 5K on it.

We need to design and build a better setup for this bearing and the drive axle bearing, something with a grease fitting that we can purge out the old grease and water after each trip. The chaincase bearings will outlast these problematic bearings many times over with periodic changing of the chaincase oil!

bearing

the bearing number is a 6206k but you should put the sleve and nut #*$&@ from an 04 as well. to remove the bearing you have to remove the chain case and c clip from in front of the bearing the drive the bearing out of its boss i used a pcs of 1 1/4 pipe

Thank you all who offered help. I am told the bearing is not available from yamaha until april, my dealer will be taking one out of a sled he has and put it in mine.
