Jumped ship but its been a good ride because of this site

totally agree with shanksyamaha! i think apexgt4life should have bought a nytro, they r lighter, real fun to drive... and i have heard so many things about skidoo that i wont buy one for a long time

i rode an XP a couple times.....just not my style of sled.

its more nytro like which i also dont really like as much for groomed trails.

you are comparing two totally different sled styles, what you should have bought it a nytro if you like that style of riding IMO.

apex is lake runner/groomed trail sled....there is no motor even close to the 4banger.

I was on an 08 XP and loved the sled, but had some issues with quality, etc...

Purchased an 09 XR 1200 and really liked the sled. Very fast for 130 hp, light for a 4 stroke, and it ran flawless all year.

The one thing I would not take a chance on, under any circumstances, would be a 800 CC 2-stroke, Doo. They have had so many problems with these motors, it just isn't proven enough to take the chance. And with my luck, the warranty would be gone when I had the problem. Now a 600 E-Tek XP, you might have me seriously consider a switch, but even with that motor I'd wait another year until they get the E-Tek all figured out from an engineering point of view, then I'd jump. Might still do that on one of my two sleds down the road.

I thought I was gunna buy a 2 stroke this year myself. I liked my rx-1 but thought I wanted to try a 2 stroke 800 or 1000 for this season... however once I did some research I decided that it just wasnt for me...

To each, his own. Everyone likes something different. Im a groomed trail, lake rider. I like to run fast and If Im in the middle of the lake I dont like to take my thumb off the bar and the apex allows me to do that. For me.. There is no doubt that the Apex is the right sled. Not for everyone, but definately for me...

lets face it
all sleds have there quirks

yes yamaha is reliable but with reliabilty comes a price. just to touch on a few, y pipes cracking exhaust donuts electric shock wire braking

when stuuf brakes it aint cheap to fix, y pipes 400 a piece
ec wires broke new shock 1200

we are right i am not here to bash yamaha i loved it but it was just not the sled for me.

I thought long and hard about the nytro but many times i asked people on this site if the nytro was that much better than the apex and a lot sed they were preatty comparable and most liked there apex better.

I dont see any issues with the 800's any more, yes there was 5 years ago.

I agree with all the posts also, last year nine of us went on a couple day loop ride in the UP. Seven were new or 1 year old XP Doo's and my my 2 yamaha's. 5 of the 7 Doo's broke down and along the trail, Broken chain case's, blowed belts, overheating, pulled out starter ropes, etc. I will never go on a trip with that many Doo's again. They screwed up the whole trip. The only issue the my Yamaha's was my saddlebag came loose in the bumps and had to be re-tightened.

I hate to beat on Doo's, but the big bore 800's still have quality problems that haven't been entirely ironed out, even on the '09's. So many people I talk to are very leery of the motors and until they completely solve the problems, won't go near them. I think the problems with the 800's, rings flaking, pistion failures and others have led to the slow arrival of the 800 E-Tek I figured would be here by now. Can you imagine all the problems with a low oil delivery, 150 HP motor, given all the problems the 800 Rotax's have to begin with? Bombardier is just too big to concentrate on a small recreational market like snowmobiles, to get this fixed quickly and thus the problems stretching over several model years.

I don't like the quality problems with suspension, frame and wheels along with Y pipes, but the majority of those can be traced to high mile wear and tear you never see on the other 2-S models. At least with Yamaha you have a motor that's tried and true, and relatively solid. Plus you can protect yourself further with a 4 yr warranty and inexpensive prices, or even as purchase incentives. I know both my '09's are protected with 4 year warranty and I have no worries other than the lousy hand warmers I had to upgrade with the Rockmeister Yamaheater.

Rode my buddy chads 08 Xp 600.. its a nice sled.. Seat is way too hard and it still a pull start and carberated.. Way too much throttle pull for me..

It is very snappy for 120hp

It definilty handles better than my apex does even with the mods ive done.. but that has to do with the weight of the apex in the front..

Big bore two strokes are never going to be as reliable as the smaller cc engines let alone a four stroke. Just way to much stress. I agree with the explanation that most of the repairs are from high mile wear. I also believe any body that bought this sled to be a big air specialist made a major mistake. This is a damn heavy sled, when you leave the ground with it gravity teaches it a lesson upon return. I have 9 grand on mine and only experienced small crack in w arm and replaced exhaust gaskets at 6 grand. Hifax and front end bushings once so far. I don't ride slow except over beat up trails, all riding has been done in northern ME and Quebec. PS think of how much injector oil I would have used in 9k miles. Have friend who bought leftover 800 Polaris, just issued update, rings, pistons, heads and o rings. Gotta love it.

plain and simple there is no comparing a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke, you cant have the best of both worlds, I know i made a wrong mistake buying the apex but i rushed into it and no one knew they would not handle right in the rough. The nytro did not come out untill 08 and would have bought that

The nytro is still to heavy and want to give the doo a fair chance. I ride tug hill and very rarley come across flat trails and i was not enjoying my ridin season pounding with the apex botomming out even after multple revalves ect.

I opted for the lightest best handeling machine on the market and as long as it hold true im good, well c.

the way i look at it is its like someone who loves rock crawling to buy a cadillac(yamaha) and drive around the rocks or take a road to the top. its snowmobiling, pounding moguls, jumpin and smelling like klotz,

I think apexgt4life made a good decision. He wants a sled that can take the moguls, handles the trails, and has that 2 stroke snap. He feels the nytro wasn't the right sled for him. Maybe its just me but Im not brand loyal. I believe yamaha makes a great sled and the apex is the perfect sled for me, I ride long flat groomed trails that I can run hard on and I run lakes all the time. Its perfect for me, but if I rode tug hill and was in the mogules shooting corner to corner I might want something different. In fact Im sure Id want something different. I dont think Id like the nytro because Its not quite where I want to be with HP. If it were me I think Id buy the same sled he did for his type of riding. I think skippy doo makes a good sled, I dont believe their motor is as reliable as ours but a 2 stroke is never gunna be. Its the sled he feels is right for him so I say, good luck and enjoy your new XP....

And please report back to us as you get some miles on it and let us know how it works out. I'd be interested to hear the hits and misses that you experience...

Never thought about taking my DTS rock climbing. Lol,good luck with the Doo. Tug Hill sounds like a nightmare to ride, rarely flat trails? I understand why the guys I meet riding in Maine who ride that area have permagrins when riding the north woods!

The throttle pull on the (800xp only) is about 3 times stiffer than the apex.not sure why (800xp) make sure you invest in a tow strap..good luck & have fun.

JUMPING SHIP

Well I jumped the other way, sick of blown up 2 stokes due mainly to crappy fuel!! Ran lots for years and put many miles with no isues, last 3 years 1 cylinder a year and all my friends at least 1 a year it sucks!!! Tired of 35 years of 2 stoke smell ! I am now 50, so light and nimble is not as important as it used to be, working on them isn't so fun either. So I now am a Attack rider, so we will see. I love my buddies 08 Apex LTX GT the 25 to 50 miles i put on it was awsum! So its so long Ski Doo REV 2 stroke and hello 07 Attack 4 Stroke. I think i'll be happy :-o
