Jumped ship but its been a good ride because of this site

At the time I had all my xc's I was 16-21 years old so I probably was harder on them than I am today but I still had alot more than $2000 in repairs well before 10,000 miles, and I always used good gas and oil. And I always had the dealer do my work as I didn't know what I was doing at that time so that contributed some to my costs

1998 xc 600 (traded at 8100 miles, had been rebuilt 3 times, 2 of the 3 machine required at least one cylinder)

2000 xc 700 sp, (Ok I smashed this sled with a few hundred miles on it so this one never had any repairs)

1999 xc 700 because I was still paying for the one I smashed (took the the dealer around 4500 miles because motor was making a "noise" dealer said its just the clutch, its fine..... sled blew within 10 miles after that. needed a cylinder at a cost of around $800 at Fun Unlimited.

2001 xc 700, had been rebuilt by the previous owner before 1200 miles. I sold it at 4000+/- and I did not have to rebuild this one but I did put on a track and some suspension parts as well as intake boots and some other odds and ends.

2002 xc 700, bought from my dad, he had no problems with it at all in 3000 miles. Before it got to 5000 miles I had rebuilt it twice. Both times at Fun Unlimited Polaris and both times around $1000 in repairs

2003 xc 700 bought brand new. Blew motor at around 3500 miles. Rebuilt one side, rode from February to April and blew the other side. Rebuilt that over summer. Blew crank Next January. This sled had alot in repairs in the 5000 miles I had it. prolly close to $4000

My wifes current 04 xc 700 has around 2700 miles and we have our fingers crossed that it won't blow this year. Gotta put $900 in it with new track and rebuilt shocks as it is..

My only point is I think its very rare to go 10,000 miles and not put $2000 in repairs into your sled... Unless you ride a yamaha.....

How many other people think that $2000 is an outrageous amount to have to put into a sled in 10,000 miles. Remember we are talking about the 10,000 mile report on this site and he included alot of preventative maintenance so I think we need to include preventative maintenance.... Im sure I have put more than that in most sleds in 5000 miles...

I don't know what you are doing to your sleds, but I put 10,000 miles on my 99 XC 600 SP and when I sold it it still had the original engine and ran good.

Just riding em. I run em hard some times and I run around on the lake alot but most of my engine failures occured on the trail. Maybe its my area but I have ridden my entire life and so have all the friends I grew up in this town. Some places kids all go to movie theaters, malls, and arcades. The nearest stop light to us is over 40 miles away. We al ride sleds and wheelers

I have one friend who owed a 1995 indy 500 that got 11,000 miles on it before they had to rebuild it and that sled is legendary in this area. People talk about it like its the only machine in history to make it that far. Everyone I know rebuilds their sleds about as often as I did.

I have a buddy right now who is putting a motor in his 01 mxz 700 right now because it toasted last year.

My dad has a 65 yo friend who is currently rebuilding his 04 rev 600 sdi for the 3rd time and its only got 6500 on the clock

All we do is ride these things. Maybe we have bad gas where we live but I have been asking around about this since I feel like Im the only one who has had this experiences in the past and the people around here are all saying that $2000 is nothing to put in a sled in 10,000

You say you love blasting the lakes and wide open throttle on big trails. These two things do not mix well with with big bore two smokes, the smallest amount of lean down will killem. There is a trail in Maine we call burn down alley, many have givin up the ghost on this stretch you always see a dead sled on the weekend.

You're right, Im not gunna deny that. I do like to hold it for as long as possible. We run hard and fast alot. Thats why I love my yamaha so much. I know the motor can take it....
