Well after 2 years of ownership I have sold my 2006 Apex. Takeaways:

1) Fast as hell, no one ever beat me, period.
2) Build quality is second to none, fit and finish is superb.
3) Never had one problem (other then not wanting to start at -30 without a battery pack helping with boost).
4)Best brake light ever, whenever we rode in white out conditions, the one constant was that people wanted ot be behind me.

I sold the sled with 1800 miles, on the original sliders, wheels etc.

Now for why I sold it.

Im a good size (220 lbs) pretty powerful guy so the weight of the machine wasnt much of an issue on any trails etc. I can pick up the front of the machine and toss it around no problem. But in any really tight trails and any offtrail, the weight is definitely there.

The Inside Ski Lift: Once i put on new skis, cranked the front down so the bars were even with the ground, and put in the pioneer bar, the inside lift was vastly improved, but it definitely was still an issue that I couldnt shake. I could convince myself that it was fine, but for the hard riding I do, I was even afraid of letting friends ride the machine in fear of them tipping it in a tight turn.

The rear suspension...they have some work to do on it. Maybe I should have been on an RTX?

So what next? Im picking up a 2009 Ski-Doo Renegade XP with X Package tomorrow. The sled just does it for me , totally a jawdropper and the weight will be a biggie for me personally.

I will let you know how it goes if you care to ask.

Thanks to everyone on this site, its an AWESOME resource, with some awesome people on it.....

Enjoy your winter and ride safe!

Hey don't go away, ;)! we need objective feedback.

You can tell by my name I am not opposed to DO or any others for that matter.

I think we should all move past the "Yami or Doo " is best only machine I'd have etc. I hope you love the doo.

This is the best snowmobile site there is, Yes, Yamaha bias is strong but most will listen to truth, not just bias BS.

Come for the fun and info :jump:

Let us know what you think every thing has strength and weaknesses.

I had some concern with the ski lift on Apex as well. Then after riding and reading of rev / cat others with rider forward, ie HIGHER center of gravity, realized these are not designed to be the rail around the corner sleds of the ~ 2000 era. I rode rev with out studs and thought less ski lift, then studded ( less loose rear end) and low and behold inside ski lift when railing was there aswell. It is all physics and trade offs. For high speed cruising of the groomed trail I think the Apex is the sled. If I wanted rough trail, bump sled, off trail then not APEX. I would look at the Dooo Renegade V. Nyto XTX as you did. So enjoy ;)!

Please bring us some real world info on your new sled, it will be much appreciated by many more than you would think. Even tho I bleed blue I like to know about the sleds out there as I do not have the resources to buy a new sled every year to ride and find out myself how the new sleds ride. Hahaha even when bleeding blue I owned 2 AC WildCats in the late 80s and the 90s. Keep the info coming :)

GOOD LUCK with your new ride, just remember you can always go back to a YAMAHA if things don't work out ;):D

BTW...Keep us updated on what you think about your new ride, as in the Good the Bad & the Ugly :flag:

My buddy had a XP600 last year and a new XP800 this year..

You wont be dissapointed.. Beats the hell out of my Apex in the MPG area.. He gets 22mpg

Im picking up a 2009 Ski-Doo Renegade XP with X Package tomorrow

o sorry to hear that lol jk

good luck

sled

turk don't you even think about leaving this site. because i can't afford to by a doo right now. i see mike knapp likes the 1200 when it becomes a turbo.

I've been thinking the same thing lately. The ONLY thing stopping me is I love F.I. and the 800 PTek is a carb motor. I'm on the fence.

Thanks for the kind words guys, and I can definitely keep you all updated on my reaction to the sled.

Well today was the day, I went and picked it up. I can say that the sled is SO LIGHT. I can easily pick the back up 4ft in the air with one hand. I can easily pick up the front of the sled too. The quality looks awesome, and the sled flat out looks MEAN. I also picked up a Skinz cover, and it also looks extremely cool. Looks like im trailering a stealth fighter

I will try and post some pics.

TB151, please write back with honest opinions. If YAM doesn't change big next year, I might jump ship also. Someone who rode YAM for a while & isn't brand biased would be great to listen to. Talk to you in winter...

you don't have to jump ship!! I have Yamaha and Doo and like each for a different reason!! I have been riding Yamaha's for 16 years and never wanted anything else, until I tryed others with an open mind. btw the XP's are amazing in imo!
