Hey everyone, this is my first post but this site is awesome. I just picked up my 03' rx-1M. It was used and has 160 miles, the owner didnt like the weight. Anyways i got $700 credit at my dealer so i want to know what you guys think i should get. The sled is bone stock. Also if it is any help i live and ride in northeast oregon(tollgate area ~4-6000ft) and like to climb. I have read quite a bit about clutching this sled, HH's maybe? My dealer knows nothing about the float bowls so tell me where, if I should get some. Tell me what you think... Thanks!
BTW, I got the blue one, it looks the fastest!! 8)

Welcome to the site.
Definatly get the float bowls, not sure of the part no. but I posted it earlier and will get it again if needed. Buy a set of skis , slp powder pros are what I run, others like simmons. Ride it for awhile before you do too much, takes some getting used to,a whole different ride. Look back at some earlier posts, and ask whatever comes to mind.

Congrats on the purchase. As far as clutching mine is still stock. I'm waiting for the engine to get completely broke in (I have 800 miles right now) b-4 doing any clutching.
As far as the carb bowls any yamaha dealer who respects their customers will be able to get them. All your dealer has to do is call yamaha and tell them he has a customer that complained and they will send them off. My dealer did this for all 16 mtn sleds he sold last year regardless of a complaint.
Do you know if the other two issues have been addressed? These are; 1st, the top two screws that hold the fuel tank cover to the frame rub on the under side of the hood and if left will evetually wear through. 2nd, on the mountains some have had a problem with the rear brackets for the skid breaking rivets or something to that effect. There are bullitens sent out by Yamaha to the dealer to fix these, unlike with the carb bowls.

Glad to here there is some new blood close to me. I live in Eastern Washington and ride in the Wallowa"s a few times a year. We need to hook up. When I was over there last year, I found a pretty good canyon to drop down into and climb out of. While I was playing, a local guy on a NOS viper started playing too and we stoppped to talk and he said he is in good with the local Yamaha shop and he hasn't seen an RX-1 run like mine come out of there yet. So if you want some set up tips, email me. I don't want to get into a pissing match here. You will find that this is a pretty touchy subject.

Thnks for all the info so far. SS i will e-mail you cause we need to hook up. I ride mostly around the tollgate are cause we got a cabin there, but we need to take a trip to the wallowa's or to halfway area. Let me know what you have done to your sled to make it run, there arent a hole lot of rx-1M around tollgate so i want mine to run good, and blow away all these RMK's and MC's. I ride with a F7 w/ 151, 900MC 159, 800MC 151, summit 700 144, 700 RMK 151. I am not too worried about the others but the cats i run with are fast. Havent rode the rx with them yet though this is just experience from last year. Thanks guys!

just a thought ,but one of the most annoying thing about the RX1 were the hand warmers defaulting to hot. It was posted on the site on how to fix. I still need to do mine and will be done when I put my sled back together.

all good ideas get the bowls thats a free update then i would put money in clutching need to keep that thing at 10200 when climbing.ccheck some threads there has been alot posted on clutching using stock yammi parts or after market ones check out the thundershift peeps seem to be having success with them. oh ya welcome to the club elite
Here are some ideas:
1) Install extroverts. $80. You need a windowed track so go to a 159 while you're at it. $700. Sell 151 on Ebay to reclaim $400. Still $320 left.
2) Get an MPI transfer kit. $50
3) 1 inch handle bar riser. $20. Knock off rivet and turn bars up and forward. FREE.
4) Get Sled Nazi's light weight battery. $25.
5) Install hand warmer turn down device. $50
6) Remove stupid tool/storage box and half of the rediculous tools. FREE
7) Have dealer install float bowls. FREE
8 ) Get Holtzman CV springs. I haven't tested yet, but sounds like they should work and they are cheap. $34.
9) Borrow $248 to buy a White Knuckle Exhaust.
Just a few random thoughts.
