Just read this on Facebook. Posted from a dealer.

I wonder if they have some exclusive contract with the shipping company they use? Maybe they own the enclosed trailers? Just doesnt make sense to risk damage with the extra handling. Cat crates work fine as long as used as intended. So why not use them as intended? Seems something more is at hand.
Your right there is !
I don't care if it's alittle late getting here I just want it in one peace !

Well your odds of getting it as it left the factory have just went down a bit. Do you understand that? I have seen what can happen when sleds are moved around with forklifts and pieces of crate fall on them. I DO have reason to be concerned. The dealer will not know if sled is undamaged from this recrating till he opens the crate. He cannot open the crate till the dealer accepts shipment so do you see the problem here? A recrated NEW sled is not worth as much as a first crate for that reason. It is not a laughing matter.

If there is any crate damage it will most likely only be cosmetic. If the dealer discovers any damage during the PDI or you during the delivery then Yamaha will make it right and bring your sled back to 100%.

I highly doubt Yamaha will knowingly ship a sled with crate damage to your dealer though.

The re-crating process is pretty simple and not much can go wrong with it.

I think many of you are over-reacting over this but that's just my opinion.

Hold on cowboy
I use to work at a dealership so yes I know what happens , I've seen what happens , so if there is anything wrong with it you don't have to take it and do you really think they are going to make a new crate ..... Hmmmmm no fucking way they will just do what they have to do to this one so they can get them on the trucks . Do you know how much work that would be to make a new crate to put this sled in ....... Come on think about it ......

I know that it will be made right. When? Havent seen alot of Viper parts laying around and you know full well that we all want this sled so bad some scratches and dents will be overlooked. If they are putting them in closed trucks they will need to be recrated or shipped with 1/2 load. No way around it. Its pretty simple. Inspect them at TRF and ship them to the dealers from there. Nothing else makes any sense.

They are worried about loading and unloading from the back , they can get them side by side . Look now they crate them in some of the pics on here , the spindles are right at the edge of the crate , Yamaha is not going to let anything happen to thes sleds . I would rather have they Yamaha guys doing this than some punk kid that doesn't care just like half if the dealers have . I work part time at a doo dealer and I'm always going over everything because the kids putting things together don't care , Yamaha does !

The replacement parts would be ordered and shipped right away assuming Yamaha has them in stock.

You're *assuming* something will actually be wrong when you pick your sled up. Relax, live in the now, and start worrying when you actually have something to worry about. Until then you are getting yourself all worked up over nothing.

You can always cancel your order, forfeit your $500, and buy something else. I'm sure the dealer will sell your machine no problem.

Pretty sure that this is the case.

The thing to remember here is that this the first Yamaha sled to be assembled in the USA (that I know of). With all of the other Yammy sleds made in Japan, they had to shipped overseas in shipping containers. With this type of container the only way to load them with cargo, is from the end doors. This means that Yamaha had to have they're crates built for end loading right from the get go! Once they were unloaded at the port, they could contact out they're shipping to trucking companies with inclosed trailers.

Last spring when I sold my Nytro, a guy bought it from Eastern Canada. When I built a crate for it, I had to build really stout because it was very likely going in an inclosed trailer at some point. When you have to pick a sled up from the end there is a LOT of weight hanging out there because of the length of the sled. What can also complicate things, is that not all loading docks have fork lifts with extended forks!

This is a classic case of something thats never came up before, so it probably got kind of over looked. I'm sure that they'll get it taken care of though as nobody (the trucking company, Yamaha, the dealer or the customer) wants to see new sleds get damaged.

Wouldn't it be easier just to hook a different trailer... Instead let's pay drivers twice And people to recrate and load and drive again... Sounds like poor quality control on both AC and YAMAHA! Talk this sled up and then piss off customers! I ordered mine like 5 days after I saw it and this is what I get! My dealer didn't even tell me! This I how I had to find out...worst new sled buying experience ever... Kinda wish I would have bought another apex!
:die :die :die :die :die :moon: :die

Calm down Jason :jump: :jump:

If we are real lucky here in lower Michigan we get a ride or two in before New Years....... ;):D

All you girls are sure getting your panties in a bunch. Have a good look at that letter from YAMAHA. Does that really look official to all you girls ? Calm down, you,ll get your sleds in plenty of time, and next year, just buy one of the showroom floor when you are ready to take it home, instead of waiting 9-10 months for it.

Man, this seems like a lot of crying for nothing. I don't care if my sled dosen't get here until after Thanksgiving.
I got to go clean the carbs on my V-max 4, that will keep me busy for a while...........

You guys are right. Was tired and thinking the worst. I am sure the first inevitable rollover this year I will laugh at all my worries. Its just a situation that didnt need to happen. Just want that sled so bad! Need to trust Yamaha since they have never let me down in the end.

I did some digging last night as I must say I was a little annoyed at this news. I am awaiting a LTX SE that I will be racing in the USXC series. After 18 years of motorcycle roadracing Yamahas (11 of them directly sponsored by Factory Yamaha) I had a few contacts lets say. This info is coming from the TOP! "After some calls I found the crate issue to be a reality. It appears in attempts to load sleds at our distribution facility size and quality became an apparent issue. After dropping the first on its nose and almost a second we had to look at making changes." Me: Why cant they be shipped as delivered to the warehouse, or direct from the factory? Contact: "There has to be seperations and certain responsibilities for each party in a joint venture like this. The delivery of sleds to us at our distribution center is where we, cut the cord lets say with our partner. The shipping issue has been such a simple thing it was never thought to be an issue and is a unfortunate biproduct of this venutre" Me: When can I expect my sled? Contact: " Our statement is a very very worse case scenerio and was drafted days ago. This issue is well ahead of original anticipated delays. In fact we have many units ready to roll" I went on to thank him. I have dealt with this individual and known him for 18+ years and he is a straight shooter with me. Hated for this to be my first post but I want my sled!!! lol.

That makes me feel a little better but I still can't figure out how this "minor detail" slipped through the cracks :drink:
