So I went to Island Park last weekend. I used my Attak last year with some less than stellar snow conditions but that wasn't happening this year...the $h!ts DEEP out there right now. I decided to rent a Nytro MTX 40th Anniversary. I'm not sure if it was de-tuned because it was a rental but I thought the power was terrible. From every report I heard on this site and more I was expecting arm pulling bottom end on this thing...it wasn't there. Could it be in the clutching? This thing actually had a bog with first crack of the throttle. The weight was okay, it was more responsive in the powder than an Apex but it still needs about a 45lbs diet for 2009. The exhaust sounds a little whimpy...it needs more attitude like the Apex. Needless to say I spent alot of time digging on hills that I shouldn't of had to. Please tell me this sled was set-up all wrong because I don't want to believe it's really this bad.

i was suprized with mine, it does a lot better then i thought it would, i built my own in tunnel titanium muffler, the last thing it does is sound wimpy. i have also found you cannot make any mistakes when doing anything technical or it will sink. i was at the dealer and they were installing a super charger on one, and i gota tell ya it getting more tempting everyday

My friends were crap out of the box. Clutching all screwed up (which it sounds like something you experienced), and suspension not set up causing the machine to trench and prematurely get stuck. They couldn't even get the skis up in the deep powder. I think once they're set up properly it's a totally different outcome. And like ditchbanger said, I'm very unimpressed with the track.

How many miles on the sled. If it was under 500 the engine probably hadn't been broken in. I noticed that after mine broke in the exhaust tone changed a fair amount. It sounds much more aggressive now, unless its all in my head LOL. If there was little hookup, you wouldn't feel the power at all anyway. Remember you are coming from 150 HP sled down to a 135...You have to be realistic with your expectations. Having said that, no sled feels powerful in deep snow with no hook up.

No sled is set up perfect for every riding situation out of the box. It depends on altitude, snow conditions even rider wt. Dealers should help because they know the conditions in their area. Unless of course your friends just looked for the lowest price then you get what you pay for. Which in turn makes the machine look bad which is not the case. Except for the track.

Actually, price shopping didn't work for them. They snow-checked the machines in Canada last spring and paid $13,500 when I could have got it here in the states for $10,300, 3 year warranty included later in the fall. They've been bumming ever since! Goes to show you how far the US dollar has fallen in the world markets, ay?

they do need to break in but for deep fluffy snow suck the limiter strap right up and that will help alot in the deep snow and dont forget to roll onto the power... these four strokes have so much torque that they will trench easy!
cheers
