Knock boxes

I can explain how the boxes work (or possibly don't work) and the methods to detect knock and what is required to detect knock if ya want.
It's alot of typing for me though.

insane - another option for the type of riding you do is to get torco race fuel concentrate and carry it with you, it will bump up the octane significantly if you get to sketchy fuel, that is going to be my plan. I like this rather then relying on a blinking light and always wondering if i should stop or not.

best thing is to avoid it blinking... just up the octane till it just stops... then no worries.

okay, can you?

I plan on using torco. Mulot, i am not looking to save money... I am looking for a safe 10 psi s/c set up. I like the idea of detecting detonation and I hope that the wrist pin problem you had is not common in the apex motor. I do not want to throw $300 away on a knock box that is not accurate. Your experience; however, tells me that you are familiar and it works entices me to buy one. The other five posts that explain it doestn't work properly has me leaning toward not buying it. I wish I could see one in action. I, when possible, will always be on the side of safety when it comes to octane, but as we all know what the sticker says on the pump in northern aroostook county might not be the same as what you are putting in your tank and a warning device certainly would pay for itself ten fold or more. Hurricane's meth kit sounds like a "fool proof" way to put the octane issue to rest. I just don't look forward to carrying 2.5 gallons of fuel and an extra gallon of wa/meth to go on a 150 mile trip. Yes i want my cake and I want to eat it too! :) It is TY's fault by putting all of these performance thoughts in my head. LOL

It was not stock apex engine... only WISECRAP pistons....... their wrist pin are just so much tinner thant JE wrist pins and even the stock yamaha wrist pins is stouter than it...

And tha knock box I just set it to its MOST sensitive setting and leave it there... it will falsely blink every once in a while... no worries... I only worri when it start blinking like hell....

Another short story... but that time I blew head gasket... when I was getting WOT, the knock box just kept lighting up.... and I changed nothing on the sled... so I was ... WTF.... then I ignored it and went WOT for a good long pull.... and guess what... I blew head gasket...... so it was not false knock :o|

Now I juste leave it a most sensitive and setup the sled not to light it up for no reason. works for me just about every time.

Detection and avoidance with the emphasis on avoidance. It is far more important to have to system to avoid detonation in the first place like enough octane fuel or water/meth to keep detonation from happening. Then if there is a good working system detection is a nice add on, but it will only warn you, and if you're lucky you will react in time to avoid any catastropic failure (deto) from happening.

I like both ideas but my first priority is to avoid deto completely. My meth system has a fail safe flow sensor to bypass the boost controll if out of fluids or lines get plugged, no flow no boost.

Just my .02 worth

I learnt the hard way to think exactly like you just said!!!!

Now I am more toward big octane and meth than always trygin to be on the very edge and relying on meters to warn me enough....

anyway my point is its better to have a warning just in case... than having nothing and blow an otherwise perfectly working engine.

My knock box was going off like crazy and I wasn't sure what was going on. What was going on was my meth kit wasn't working properly and 2 of the nozzles weren't spraying!!! Definitely saved me from total destruction. I don't run the meth anymore and just good fuel, I have mine set up so it still blinks intermittently and is sensitive. Just another tool. I don't rely on the meth anymore but I still use the knock box and trust it. It will light up like a Christmas tree when the motor is detonating.

If its sensing knock guys its to late, damage has occured just not to the point you have noticed a change, ring lans, will start showing this if modest deto occurs from there catastrophic happens , most of us never see the ring lan problem just the puked motor. crankcase ventilation is one area that needs more attention on these boosted sleds also. Onestop Jim or one of the pros can alaberate more on this occuring problem.

how can you explain that the Z1 knock sensing work perfectly. Monitored dyno cession with Boondocker boost increase show how the system work well and protect the engine from any detonation destruction.

I'm very wondering why an aftermarket kit is not available.

I had in my mine to use the parker box connected to my boost controler, but If I understand correctly I will run without boost more often than with.

Same thing here except the the meth.. meth is good!

If you spend as much time as the oem set-up to get the correct wave detection of knock or resolution of frequency wich is low enough to detect butnot damage engine components. That is where cat spent a bunch of R+D money getting it correct for their application, and their engine.
