They are worth a few hp. Especially overrev. The apex has a nice wide spread at 10,000 and above. A little extra timing carries the hp for a few hundred rpm longer.

Do you have one? What rpm you maxed yours out at? I plan on getting oneThey are worth a few hp. Especially overrev. The apex has a nice wide spread at 10,000 and above. A little extra timing carries the hp for a few hundred rpm longer.

It has been suggested that the 06-10 Apex did not have a true rev-limiter but, instead limited over-rev by severely retarding the timing past 11,000 rpm. I can neither confirm nor deny that claim. But what I can say is that with extra timing I was able to extend my rev-range to 11,000 rpm. Most stock or lightly moded Apex's are lucky to carry the peak rpm to 10,800. Even my sled does not improve on its peak numbers past 11k so there is absolutely no reason to rev it that high. What is nice about it is that it provides a nice WIDE band that will accommodate less than perfect clutching or varying riding conditions and temperatures.
I have a pc3 with ignition box that I bought many years ago. If I were to buy a box now it would definitely be a pc5 with the built in ignition box.

Nice.i already have the pc3 fuel module so I need the same ignition module. So your saying it's worth getting the ignition module for the xtra power? It has been suggested that the 06-10 Apex did not have a true rev-limiter but, instead limited over-rev by severely retarding the timing past 11,000 rpm. The pc3 and ignition module are several years old. Last I knew, the ignition module was still available, but now I'm not sure. That is something you would have to check on. Much of the older electronics have been discontinued in favor of the newer components. But they are often found used in the classified section for very reasonable prices.
Is it worth it??? That's the biggest question. Will you notice the difference seat of the pants? Probably not. Where you see the difference is on a dyno or if you are racing a buddy that you need another half of a sled length to beat. If you are a horsepower junky and just gotta have that last couple of hp, than yes by all means. But if you are a more casual trail rider its probably not worth it. Only you can decide what you want and what you are willing to spend to get it. And advanced timing usually requires premium gas just to be safe. Something to think about.
Don't forget that even if you purchase an ignition box, it's usually better to get an entire map from a reputable performance shop or from somebody that already has a good setup. To just start blindly plugging in timing numbers is not recommended.

i have the pc 3 and ign box on mine with an ulmar map, i have to run at least 91 octane, i mainly put this on cause i modded the intake and put full excell exhaust on, but your wording on the cash vs hp macheater is spot on! it is costly, but how bad do u need another sled length!!The pc3 and ignition module are several years old.
