Has any one had this happen to them and if so what do you think was the cause.

Weekend past, I was heading out on a 3 day trip. Not a 1/2 hour into the ride the slider on the left hand side was half was down the rail. Good thing we stopped.

I checked the front the rail, the bolt that holds the slider into place broke at the head. So the reminder of the bolt was in the rail.

I was able to get the sled back home. I took out the skid, dilled out the bolt and put 2 new sliders, new bolts and and re-installed the skid last night.

Now...I noticed that at the front of the sliders (in the curve part) close to the bolt that there was alot of wear in the area. Also the end caps that are on the rail seem to have taken a beating, all chewed up?

Has this happended to anyone? If so..please elaborate.

Thanks

Oh... I drive a 03 blue ER shorty with 9000kms. :4STroke:

PS..can anyone direct me to LazyBastards rear suspension set up?

I had the same thing happen to me last year on my '05 RX1, I think its the vibration that got the screw to back out just enough for a clip to get a hold of it and snap it off...I say that 'cause I had a clip missing on that same side(left) sitting on the sled, I drove mine backwards for 1000' or so to get to a road, by reversing the clips warn't hitting the front rail and cause damage...

On my APEX I lock-tite it RED making sure this doesn't happen again, I was lucky when it happened I was crossing a road when my buddy noticed something was wrong and stoped me!

Thanks for the info.

I installed new sliders in 2006 and I used blue lock-tite. I rode over 1500kms between the new instalation and last weekend with no issues.

I spoke with the Yamaha dealer in Sudbury, Sudbury Cycle and they told me I might have hit something to cause it to break. I don't recall hitting anything that hard! I kinda baby the sled as well. So I don't think it was that.

The right side slider was chewed up as well?? I'm not sure what to think.

Be careful, if you use RED lock-tite you have to use a bit of heat before removing the screw, propane torch will do the trick, don't over do it...just put your screw driver on and loosen as your heating it up and you'll feel it release.

Yup...while I had the skid out..I checked the entire track along with clips and they were all good.

I replaced all the upper idler wheel bearnings as well.

The dealer in Verner, RL Equipment told me that the track might have been to loose. I do ride with a loose track but never enough to rachet on the front sprocket.
