limiter strap question

I am curious as to where people are running there limiter straps. Currently mine is all the way out. I am planning on going up one hole,so that its in the middle setting. Riding my sled yesterday I was all over the place, basically it would only turn if i let off the gas. Conitions were ungroomed 6-8 inches to a foot and half of snow. I know that in these conditions a sled wont handle its best, but mine was almost unrideable. Im sure the stock ski's are part of the problem as well.

I am by no means a suspension expert, but (according to LazyBasterd) you should pull the limiter strap up (I have mine pulled all the way up) and loosen the front shocks (lowers the center of gravity) to reduce inside ski lift and improve steering. Although I have yet to take my Attak through any aggressive trail riding, I did this to my '03 RX1 and my friends '05 Warrior and it did do away with the inside ski lift.

I have a lil' inside ski lift. When you say loosen the front shocks are you talking about the preload?

Pardon my ignorance, is this just a matter of moving a bolt to another hole? No other disassembly? Weight off the skid or what?

Thanks
Jack

Its actually easier to adjust the limiter with weight on the skid as the strap gets some slack. If you try to adjust with weight off the skid you need to fight the spring preload.

Yes. Lift the front of the sled off the ground to the point where the skis are off the ground. Loosen the lock ring and unscrew the tension adjuster ring. I loosened mine to the point where the spring had no tension on it, but no free-play either. By doing this, I lowered the front end (as measured by the front bumper) two inches from what the dealer had set up.

Tighten up the limiter strap is easy, too. With the weight of the sled on the skid (do not lift up the sled,) unbolt the two bolts (one bolt per strap) and reinstall the bolts into whatever hole you want. Shortening the strap, pulls up the front of the skid and, consequently, pushes down on the skis.

Again, I am not a suspension expert. This is just my understanding of how the suspension works.

i am having the same problem. I can't turn my apex. the ski's would NOT bite as there was no pressure.

I got a question...I may be a complete idiot but isn't there only one limiter strap in the front? Why do you guys keep saying straps as in more than one?

The easiest way to adjust you limiter STRAP is too Use a hoist ( electric is the best you only have to push a button then ( i'm lazy) Either way raise the rear off so your sled looks like it's nose diving , place a board or even better, one of those little work stools with wheels on them, underneath your track directly under the stap, lower your sled back down, and watch the strap, you will see all the tension being relieved from it. Also the tighter the strap the more pressure on the front end / skis. I run mine right in the middle but everyone is different, some won't evr mess with the strap..

I just finished adjustin my limiter strap. Mine was set stock at 1 hole away from being as loose as possible. I moved it to 1 hole away from being as tight as possible. I have not messed with the front shocks or transfer yet. I most likely will be able to ride it this weeknd and see iif this adjustment helped. I may also shim the skis. Adusting the srtap was very east it took less than 15 minutes

You are correct. The RX1 has two limiter straps, but the Apex/Attaks have only one (see photo.)
