First ride on my new sled, frozen lake 2-3 mile runs. On long pulls at WOT and 120 mph when I let off and start to apply my brake the brake leaver goes right to the bar first, then I pump my brakes and get a little bit of brake but still leaver is 1/2” away from handle bar.This happened several times. Normal riding and slower speeds this has never happened brake felt like it should. When I get back home I’m going to bleed the system. Has anyone had this problem before.

All the time on my old POS 2o12 turbo Cat after a high speed run. Man I hated that thing. You would think it would be a warped disc, but it wasn't. Damn Hayes brakes.

Now that does scare me some,i was struggling some when we changed out the new driveshaft,as a lot of you knew,and helped with great ideas. But no problems with my first ride this year,but not on a lake either,and no 120 mph runs yet. But when it does happen,i will be very alert to the feel of my brakes before I fly down the lake,and hope all goes well.

Make sure the diaphragm in the resourvour under the cover is pushed back up when reinstalling the cover. Run some fresh fluid through the system and be sure the brake pad pin is not bent and caliper not ciezed.
Scary thought at 120mph. I never like grabbing the brakes after a pull. Call me crazy, but I usually stand up after I let off the throttle. Slows you down pretty fast. Especially on those short ponds when there's icy conditions.

I don't think thats whats happening in case like this. With a high speed run, the pistons in the caliper get pushed back and the master cylinder needs to be pumped to push a larger amount of brake fluid than one pump of the lever can do. It takes a couple, even three squeezes on the lever to push the pistons back against the brake pucks and rotor.
It would seem that there must be some amount of runout on the rotor to make this happen at high speed. Perhaps with the large amount of wear that occurs to the front drive shaft and bearing on that brake side, its enough to shake and vibrate the pistons in at high speed. I know my 2012 turbo ProCross was notorious for doing this, but only high speed runs. wouldn't do it of kept say below 100. 120-130 and up it would do it.

did you just take the sled off your trailer? I've been told if you use your parking brakes on a trailer sometimes there's brake failure when you use the leveler. I know of someone who lent out their viper and on the first corner the guy totalled the borrowed machine. the owner was freaking out when the guy who borrowed it claimed; that i had absolutely no brakes, it went to the bar. they had just removed it off the trailer.First ride on my new sled, frozen lake 2-3 mile runs. Just trucked my sled today, I wanted to use Parking brake but never do, as I have always feared bleed down. So I strap her in and go instead.

Never had that problem with my sidewinders but my Polaris 850 is doing the same thing (it uses the same Hayes brake system) just installed a new rotor, hoping the old one was warped

I'm with Knapp on this one. The caliper piston is being pushed back for whatever reason, either rotor issue or something flexing. It takes a pull or two on the brake lever to reset everything.
Basically, if something doesn't fail on these sleds on your way up to warp speed....you might not be able to stop on your way down....

Yes I had the parking brake on when I took it off my truck. I rode around a field for a couple of minutes before heading out on lake, the brakes seemed fine there. It only happened on long pulls. I parked the sled for an hour and then went back out on the lake and same thing. It makes sense That the Rotor is pushing the Caliper open. Should I take it in for warranty and get the same parts or is there better parts I should install.
