2003 RX1 - SOLD
Hi guys!
I'm looking at upgrading my 03 RX1 to possibly a 2015 Viper LTX SE. Is there anything I need to know about these sleds? Is the build quality still up to the old Yamaha standards? Are there any major issues that got addressed from the 2014 models?
Also on one of the ads he said he got the clutch modified for more top end, is this really needed or should I take this as a red flag?
Thanks gang!

I just brought a 2016 Viper MTX 141" home a few days ago. I traded off a 2012 Nytro XTX. So far looking closely over the sled I can't find any glaring faults with it's build quality. Sure there are a few rough edges on plastics, but everything looks good to me as far as assembly goes.
I would think dynamically the Viper would be in a whole different league compared to that 03 RX1. I mean you'd be saving tons of weight and have a much more advanced chassis and suspension.
Look die hard Yamaha fans might criticize the Thief Rivers Falls models, but Cat has always been a leader in chassis and suspension design. I'd say you'd likely enjoy it a bunch. I know after riding my Dad's 7000 series Cat I knew I wanted to upgrade.

Rx no they All from factory needed machining to get full shift out as bulletproof as yamaha clutches are they missed the boat on these. I gained almost 6 mph top end when mine were done.

I believe he just played with the weights and went with a belt that came with the Nytro's.

lots of guys did those mods to their vipers with no issues.
Once again. You have turbo Yamadog. Stocker runs out of power before shift or gear except in Miraculous conditions. Modded maybe but then gear is better than messing with the clutches. Why machine something that has worked for over 20 years now?Rx no they All from factory needed machining to get full shift out as bulletproof as yamaha clutches are they missed the boat on these. My dealer machines the primary and helix for full shift as part of his turbo install. yes you could change gear. I think the theory is to keep the low end spunk and still get the extra top end the turbo can pull

Is the hot start issue a problem in the 2016's viper?

Hot start was a 14 issue, now the kickbacks and idle issues seem to be random

Simplest is to just get adapter for lighter socket but there are many other options with my favorite being Rocks Power Supply.
