Well my problem is about every 90 miles or so the hyfax on my left side pulls out and wraps itself up and around the inside of my track. First time it happened the bolt sheared off, 2nd time bolt back out and the 3rd time the bolt is there but laying longways imbedded in the hyfax. Any idea's of what is causing this?? Any permanent fixes?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked to make shure your not missing track clips?Either that or threads in rail are wiped out.
Ive done some measuring on some different hyfax(polaris and articcat) the polaris should go right on.Ive had excellent wear results from the factory white polaris hyfax in less than ideal conditions and as soon as the yamahas ones wear out again thats what im using.

Blue loctite on the screw you will have to heat the rail to get out when it comes time to change the hyfax again. You may have stripped the threads and there is nothing to hold the screw in place also.

Drill a hole all the way thru the rail and put a lock nut on top of the rail, they way they should be.

I think that may weaken the rail too much. I can where the threads were cut on mine on the outside of the rail so there is not much left. If you drill through to the top you may have problems on rail weakness.

Dave is right, I dont think you understand what he was saying. Go look at a cat or poo and you will get a better picture. I have done this to two Yamaha's and had no problems at all.

I do beleive I know what he means is to keep on drilling the hole straight to the top of the rail find bolt that will go through the whole rail and use a self locking nut to hold the hyfax in place. I still think by doing this you run the chance of that whole part of the rail becoming too weak and if hit could break off completly.

I don't quite understand why this would weaken the rail significantly, you are still putting steel where the aluminum has been taken out of. If someone could please post a pic of this mod done so i can be sure to understand what is to be done. My guess is that my threads inside the rail are done so this is probably my only option.

Even with the steel in the aluminum it is only as strong as the aluminum. If these guys say it is ok then it probably is I was just bringing it to your attention is all. IF your threads are screwed which wouldnt take much then it is your only option other than to buy a whole new rail.

would it be better to just cut a window in the rail as to fit a nut inside ??

No I think the other method would be better. Best to go see what they are talking about first, go look at a poo or cat and see how they did it.

What I meant was to drill a hole in the side of the rail and file it off square just big ehough to fit a nylock nut in and then drill out the original hole just big enough so the new bolt would slip in. If you look at how ski-doo or cat does it it will make sence to you

heres a picture of my 05 rail. There is not much room to put a nut in the middle like a polaris because of the front limiter shaft. If you go to the top your going to have to clearance the plastic rail tip at the top alsne more option would be a helicoil.
If you do drill it out be carefull as the aluminum is hard and the drill bit likes to walk easily if your drilling to the top.

Could you not just install a pin with a hole through it into where the screw went drill a small hole through the side of the rail line up the pin hole to the hole you just drilled and install a cotter key. All the screw did in the first place was to stop the hyfax from moving backwards and this pin would accomplish the same thing. The shape of the hyfax holds it onto the rail.
