Hey guys, pretty new to the forum here but I know this is the best place for the info im going to need. I've been a yami guy ever since ive been into sleddin. I recently just sold my 01 SXR 700 and now have a good job and the money to buy something that I actually want. Ive always been really into the nytros but as you all know have heard some not so good stories about them. I'm a semi-aggressive trail rider and ditch banger. The #*$&@ here in Illinois gets tore up pretty quick, so im looking for something with a good ride and that handles pretty decent. How much improvement am I going to see in a nytro over the SXR power wise, ride wise, and handling. What are some realistic numbers on mileage with the stock 7 gal tank on the nytro? Ive been looking pretty hard at the 09 RTX SE. That seems to be my fav and appears to have the best shock package. Most of the ones ive looked at are going for around 6200-6500. Do these prices seem about right? Let's hear some real reasons as to why I should be willing to spend 6k on something I can only ride for 3 months out of the year! Also, if any of you know of any nytros for sale within a couple hundred miles of northern illinois please let me know! Thanks for all the help guys, look forward to hearing what everyone has to say.

i just bought my first nytro and yamaha for that matter (mtx 153) this past fall. i was previously polaris. i have to say i was very impressed with the quality of the machine. now for the performance. the nytro engines are amazing. they are crazy smooth and the torque will surprise you. handling is pretty good, they are heavy so you have to expect some limitations here. many of us are going to the skinz front ends for better handling on these machines. overall power wise, like i said the torque is good, but you wont have that head snapping power like 2 strokes have, that is unless you decide to turbo it someday. you will stay with 700cc 2 stroke machines. i dont many that many miles on mine, but i am very excited with my nytro so far, i would buy another one in a heart beat.

I have a 09 nytro xtx great sled.If you buy one I dont think you will be disapointed

you would be going from from one extreme to another, a sit down trail type sled, to the closest thing yamaha has to a race sled... its a great sled with an even better motor, for your riding style i would say a nytro would be a good fit for you

yes it is one extreme to another, but i think it is moving from the dark ages to the present! hehe if you like to ditch bang, you have to move around all the time, so a more rider forward sled would be a nice change for you. i cant say how much i love standing 80% of the time, it is SO natural to stand on these things.

Well first off, you need to ride one then you won't be asking us why you should spend the cake to get one, you will be dropping the 6 grand no problem! The sled is a absolute blast and the motor/power/torque is addicting as hell. You need to start reading through this section as there is a TON of information that will help you with this sled. For mileage, look for about 90 miles if you ride it like it should be. I haven't had a problem yet with running out of gas and I ride with all different sleds in the UP and WI, just have to watch what your doing and fill up. Not sure about power wise with your previous sled as I've never ran one. Ride and handling wise is going to be totally different as it's a rider forward and has higher COG. A lot of body english is need to really rip on this sled. I would think that price is a little high maybe, I paid 6g for my 08 two years ago with real low miles. Look around the deals are out there.
You are going to read a lot of guys saying you need to dump another 3g into your nytro to get it to run right. Which is totally not true, I ran might stock the first year and was more then happy, just dialed in the suspension and pounded on it. Now is a different story haha as modifying this machine is addicting also, so beware! and reading this site doesn't help one bit either :rocks:
As far as mods that I would recommend right away if your budget allows: Yamaheater with boost, OFT relocator, Excell big wheels, revalve the shocks(suck in the studders), Roest skid plate, oilite front end bushings, copper donuts, NCI balljoints.........see what I mean, it gets addicting. Read the sticky post which has the suspension set ups in it. Toe it out 1/2 and shim the skis too. Will get you close to dialed in and take the guess work out of it. I guess that is it off the top of my head....there are a lot of guys on here that can answer pretty much any question you can think up so just ask. Good luck and post up a pick when you get it!

Nate

I purchased a 2011 Nytro XTX last year and I must say it was the best purchase I could have ever made. Absolutely love the sled. With a few tweeks here and there you can make it handle even better then stock.

Thanks for all the replies guys...as stated above, I figured it would be a night and day difference between the nytro and SXR, but I think that difference would be positive in everyway. The SXR didn't suit my riding style by any means but I had to make it work for what I had. I'm going to do some more research and seriously look into one this winter and hopefully pick it up a couple months before winter to try and get a better price. Is there any model you guys reccomend over the others (fx,RTX, RTX SE) and why? The only reason i'm really wanting one is because i'm finally able to afford it and being 20 years old I feel like it's now or never, as this is the time i'm going to enjoy it the most in my life. Thanks for all the help guys! If I find anything i'll post some links to see what you guys think.

I would try and look now or soon as possible to get the best price. If you can find a se I go that route for better shocks but the newer nytros have the better shocks too. So look into that if prices are right for you. Come on 20 years old.......now or never? I'm 30 and still having a blast on this sled!!! It's never too late lol

I have Nathan Titus's 2010 race sled with a full set of Exit shocks and all factory bracing for sale. No reverse. Typical XC body damage willing to let it go cheap $4750

For Ditch Bang'n, it's not going to be your best choice, and if you plan on hitting the ditches I would recommend the roll over valve. It's not just for complete roll overs but even just putting the sled on it's side (the wrong side) can cause issues. Trail riding, it's pretty good, in terms of what Yamaha has to offer, it's not going to rail like your SRX did, but your spine will be much happier with the new iron. The first ride you may think you've mad a huge mistake, but it takes a few rides, and some adjustment in getting used to the "Rider Forward" ergos and handling that come along with those changes. You will be working much more to maneuver the machine than you probably did on the SRX, with trial and error you'll relearn and it will get easier with time. You may need to prioritize what you want/expect out of a sled, Nytro's are a good sled for a specific type of rider, as you deviate from that type, the sled can become a money pit in terms of modding it to do what you want. No sled will do it all, regardless of brand, model, etc.

Go with the 09 S.E. or the 10 RTX (Same as S.E.), the front shocks are great for what you want. Rears, will either take some work, or just replace. I recommend replacement, but for many they are fine with a revalve.

Skis are a major downfall on this sled, some will say that's not the case but, if you look at the pencils that come with it (virtually the same ski bottom your 01 has, it will be no surprise why an aftermarket ski is a great addition. I had Curve's and would highly recommend them, not cheap but to me they performed as promised and didn't create any other issues like heavy steering, darting, and twitching that many other more aggressive skis do. They are a very predictable ski that provides surprisingly good flotation. Beyond skis, front end bushings, ball-joints will likely be shot on any used Nytro (see NCI), maybe a stiffer/taller seat depending on your height. Make sure any and all updates have been done, radiator mounts, oil tank mounts, rear tunnel braces, etc.

I wouldn't recommend revalving the shocks until you ride the sled for a bit. MOST riders do not ride teh sled he way it was intended to be ridden and wasting $ on revalving is just not necessary. I can't tell you how many Nytros I fly by on the trails wondering what the hell they bought this sled for. If your shocks need to be revalved you will know it shortly. As far as comparing power to your SRX, you won't notice much difference. The SRX was a fast sled and if tuned properly was a real fast sled. The Nytro is certainly a quicker sled but the SRX will hang right with it. don'
t expect to be blown away by any difference is hp. You NEED the Yamaheater. don't try to ride north of the border without it.
