OK...just got my machine back last Monday from a very reputable engine/turbo builder here in Ontario to have a few things done and one being an oil change which he had to do to perform the work he completed. I was planning on storing it for the summer and mother nature dropped us off half a foot of snow so I went and played in the field that we always drag race in. After a few minutes of warming up the sled and peforming a pre check and I verified the oil level and it was bang on. So, I decided to make a 10 second pull and the engine low oil light went on and 1 second after the engine shut itself off. I removed all the panels and saw the oil pouring out with the drain plug lying in the belly.
My concern is does the engine shut down way soon before the damage is done or has anybody seen the overall life expectency of the engine be affected by losing all it's oil. I also run a MCX turbo that that is also a a concern since it's oil fed. I added oil and parked it until I talk to ...........and see what he wants to do or what I should make him do for this mess up. I have lost 2 nights of sleep cause of this I am not too fn happy since I bring it t make it better and it's the worse possible thing that could have happened all cause I trusted somebody to do it. please give me some educated feedback thanks!

Okay so take this with a grain of salt because I am a Yamaha dealer and I am not sure what kind of a relationship you have with your dealer but I have been one for 12 years. If you go in screaming mad and demanding action you might depending on your dealer just have a big confrontation and a blowout. If you go in and ask to speak to the owner and explain what happened and what can he do to help rectify this problem, I would think he would bring the unit in and work with you to come to a compromise that you both feel comfortable with. Everybody makes mistakes and with a dealership its how you handle the problem that shows your service. I hope all goes well. Good luck. Shad
My plan was not to yell and scream whatsoever but rather come to a solution. My question is do you think their would be any engine damage or is it possible that I might have got away lucky? Is the engine fail safe really that effective that it would in fact save the engine? I started it up at home and it sounds normal but I do know that I could have done some crank damage that would not come out right away but what do do to tell if their is damage?

I would go back where you had the work done and let them make the recommendation on how they want it handled. My thought on your question is you are probably ok with the motor and turbo being a ball bearing turbo would be ok as well. Were you WOT when it shut down? Reason I ask is it is never good to shut down a Turboed motor especially from full load/heat with out a good idle period to cool first.

I would think that the turbo for sure would be okay like kviper said, and the engine shut down will in most cases save the engine from damage. I would think that all is okay. I hope you can gain peace of mind and get some sleep. Shad
I did a wot pull and the moment I let off the throttle it sputtered and died. I looked at the gauges and saw the yellow light with the oil and engine icon lite up I then removed side panel and saw the oil coming out of the oil canister and 5 seconds later it was dripping. Oil was all over the skid as well as the entire side of the sled
It just realy sucks since have so much $$$$ in this sled and it has been super reliable and to have this in the back of my mind without having the engine inspected would drive my nuts since I am such a perfectionist. I always over maintain and clean my sleds with a toothbrush if you know what I mean and never abuse my stuff so this kills me

I understand how you feel when it is your pride and joy, I am the same way with my sled and car. I know the computer on the Apex will shut the motor down even when the oil pressure is low so the instant it lost any pressure it cut ignition. Maybe your dealer could do an oil pressure and leak down test free of charge for you just for the piece of mind. Good luck!

IMHO no damage is going to happen in "1 second". There still would have been oil pressure when the light came on.
Safety feature is there for a reason.
Contact your dealer or several dealers and speak to the service manager so you can verify this before calling the performance shop that did the work.
Don't lose sleep over i. I'm pretty sure you do not have an issue and is you do, a reputable shop will make it right.

I am speaking with him this morning and will let you guys know of the outcome. Thanks for all the support and feedback!
I think your engine is fine. The engine breather hose froze up on mine, engine stopped. One hose blew of, just put it back on and filled it up with oil.
Well....I spoke to my guy and he agreed to remove and disasemble the engine and inspect it if I want. He was very willing to help and could not believe such a thing happened under his roof but like anything else mistakes do happen. He did say their is a small chance that maybe the cam may have suffered by lack of oil for a fraction of a second as well as maybe the crank bearings? So, at the end of our conversation we both agreed that inspecting the engine from top to bottom would make us both feel much better. The nice thing is that he has a full machine shop and does all his own work in house and that great service goes a long way!

Sounds very fair to me and you have time for him to do it now. Should help you sleep better any way!

Please let us know how the inspection turns out. And it sounds like you got a very rare, excellent dealer. Would you mind sharing their name with us ?
