Maybe Yamaha will come out with an on board computer so we can change our set up through out the day in different conditions . how hard would that be ? lets just say the engineers now how the sled is supposed to react in certain condition then the computer can direct you in the right direction on how to adjust your sled. How hard can it be ? the i phone has a level on it. I think it can be done.

Re: handling

My thoughts exactly. Compared to the 2-smokes if you let off the throttle totally coming into the corners the rear of the sled will wash side to side. If you feather the throttle into the corner then mash it you are way ahead of the game and will have no problems catching that 800xp which has to lose all the rpms into the corner. I had MSG on his XTX try this and he was able to catch these sleds in the corners due to this. Also rider english is key with stock skis. My 08fx shorty rails in the corners after I figured this out. just my 2 cents. Its the nature of the beast!!LeeKo said:I am going to try the Hygear triple rate springs to get the ride ride height down without losing bottoming out resistance. I had my stock springs preloaded more than stock because I was bottoming out, I found that when I backed off all the clicker's compression on the fronts shocks the handling improved.
I also noticed that when entering a turn I would stay easy on the throttle once the outside ski was set, I could feel the shock compress and I could then pour on the power and carve the turn. I think the sled handles ok, but takes a little more finesse to get it to rail. I am hoping that it improves with the new springs.
I also took one increment off the weight transfer and felt the ride suffered and I didn't think it hooked up as well so I put it back to the stock setting. I also noticed that if you mash the throttle at the apex of the turn and lean in hard that the sled will carve out the turn on the track with the skis off the ground. This sled is a interactive sled and takes more rider input to make it work well. One of those inputs is the gas. I think it is important to not chop the throttle into the turn but stay light early in the turn and add power smoothly.
Look at this picture of my friends XP next to my XTX. Notice how much more set in he has. I think this is one of the reasons the XP handles better.

So kinda ride it like a sportbike. Set your corner speed and then after you pass the apex of the corner (if not a blind corner) roll on the throttle. Oh and hang off the sled to counter the high center of gravity!

If you can get your Nytro to lean like that on a hardpack trail, you better go get the Big Boy springs!! lol

Look at the pics in the sled magazines. There all hanging of it like a sportbike. I'm teaching my son how to ride a sled. He said "I didn't know your suppose to drag a knee on a snowmobile" My comment was "only on a Nytro"

Yes that seems to be the ticket. but don't get lazy, once you do it's all over. I don't see the guys on the 800 xp use any body english. maybe a little over center.time to go to the gym.

If you ride a sport bike this is the sled for you!!!

That is precisely why I like the FX Nytro sleds.
I don't own one yet, but the little I have ridden them, the more like a sport bike they feel to me.
And, yeah, I need the big boy spring package

I'm not trying to change the subject of the thread but, I own a Nitro XTX and an Attack. I also have an 06 R6 and an 06 R1 LE. The R6 is way more flickable and lighter...so once I got it I was riding it more and letting my LE sit. I guess if I start riding the XTX like a bike it will be more enjoyable and the Attack will sit!

Pretty much the fate of my Warrior now too, just sits (Man i used to love that sled, still kinda do). I walk out to the garage and I'll look at it, sometimes even sit on it........then run over to the XTX and shake my head at the Warrior and pull out. He's lonely now.....only has the wifes Polaris to keep it company. He really does need a new home.

Ok so you guys that got your xtx's railing post up your set-up!!! I did 600 miles on mine this weekend and it was ok in the twisties but, way to tippy. Here is my set-up: stock ski's with Yamaha stud boy duece wear bars, front springs loose till rattle then tighten back 1 turn, front rebound 8 clicks CCW, front compression 6 clicks from Full CCW, center shock preload 5mm stiffer, spring preload med, rear shock compression 6 clicks ccw, weight transfer minimum, and limiter shortened one hole.
I weigh 210. This thing will beat you up in the stutter bumps and it just doesn't handle. Maybe I have to much ski pressure and to much rebound in front. When I went out to verify this info to post I found out that that rebound in front has like 32 clicks. so I probably have to much rebound.

Phaze5,
I have read some of your other posts and I feel you may have made that decision prior to reading this thread! But, hey they all have problems! One nice thing is we can get on here and discuss our problems and find solutions. My buddy had his rev for 3 years and kept asking on a different site what to do to make it ride and handle better and never got an answer. Guys on here are very helpful. Using someone elses knowledge of the rebound on the center shock led me to try reducing the preload on the center shock. I'll give it a try and see. If it helps great if not I will come back to this thread and ask for more help. Go search the other manufactures websites and see if they are as helpful as TY! While there you will see they are all trouble free and all beat yamaha hands down. Lets not hijack this thread and turn it into a brand X is better thread. Thanks!

rhoag- Does that mean xtx isn't for sale. lol (I was the one at the credit union) Sorry I couldn't talk longer I had to go to work.
I have 500 hundred miles on mine but haven't had to change much. Half my miles were in loose powder. The rest were on smoooth trails. Want to try some different conditions before change too much.
Where is your center pre- load now? Have you changed it any?
