I have a 2016 LTX-DX that has had the master cylinder fail. Went from full brake to no brake in about 3 seconds. It's a good thing it didn't happen in some tight corners while my wife was driving. Anybody else have the same thing happen. A bit of a safety issue as it could have really ended badly. Wondering if I should press Yamaha on the issue as it was a couple of hundred bucks to replace. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Don't leave your parking brake on while in route or storage is all I can recommend

Park brake has been used only a couple of times. Never liked it as I think it is too much pressure on the cylinder.

Was it the actual caliper itself or the brake line? I had an issue on my 14 that caused the secondary to cut through the brake line at full shift and caused a braking failure. It was covered under warranty and later a recall issued due to improper brake line routing from the factory. The recall wasn't issued until 2015 or 16 so its possible your brake line could have been affected by that recall.

I saw a brake failure on a viper but it was caused by the line getting cut after improper routing by a dealer after warranty work on starter gears.

It was the brake lever, plunger and reservoir that failed. Haven't heard of anyone else having this issue, I must have got the dud!

It happened to me also after leaving parking brake on for a week or more. Just forgot. Never could get it to bleed. Tried all the tricks. Replaced master and bled in about 2 min.

It is referred to as the "parking break" in the manual from Yamaha. I was unable to find any cautionary statements listed anywhere from Yamaha about the use of the break, either long or short term. I have always been told by friends and the dealer to not use the break for much more than belt changes. The Apex on the other-hand has a great Parking Break system and works very well.

They did warranty it.
