MCX 270 turbo boost issue

I know i little bit about turbos on vehicles and understand four strokes because i race dirtbikes, but I am a total newbie when it comes to turboed four strokes as this is my first. So I don't even know where to start as far as tracking down this issue goes.. On the first ride out the sled was having issues building boost... from reading on the Web I had come to understand that I'd this turbo is tuned to 270 hp it should be hitting 18lbs of boost WOT the highest I saw my gauge go was 8 lbs.. it was also occasionally not building any boost and just bouncing off the Rev limiter (I'm assuming ). It would do that for a bit and piss around, then it would seem to run alright and not pop and choke. I'm fairly mechanical so even if someone just had an idea for where to start that would be very appreciated..

Make sure you did not split the header pipe... factor welds are nothing but crap and if you running high boost levels I have seen them crack and split.
