Had a chance to play with this sled a little bit on the week-end. VERY impressive.
There's a local race here every year that is about 2500' on snow. I think a turbo Yamaha has won it for the past 9 years or so, except for last year.
Last year a Cat won.
I got a call Friday afternoon from Ron. He was wondering if I was running anything this year? I wasn't, and none of the other fast yamaha guys that I knew were planning to attend. The big Apex that Ron tunes wasn't available either, so things weren't looking good for the blue camp. I told Ron that I'd just clutched a 2011 Apex with an MCX 290 kit on it a few weeks back. Maybe the owner wanted to go racing? Gave him a call and we were good to go!
Late friday night I pulled the Apex into the shop and did some gearing/clutching. When we got out to the track on Saturday the set-up was pretty close, but still hitting the rev limiter. Ron and Scott (PTT on this forum) had an enviable selection of bolts/washers, and were able to get the RPM's under control.
Long story short - 221 KMH (137 MPH) on snow, ~13 lbs and pump fuel. Fastest Cat for the day was 208 KMH (129 MPH).
Trophy is back in the blue camp for another year. Probably the most impressive win I've ever seen for a boosted Yamaha. It is absolutely unbelievable how hard this package pulls.

The sled doesn't have an a/f gauge on it Fern, so I wasn't too excited about messing with the boost.
Plus, it was fun to see how far we could tune a pump gas set-up...

Congrats
If you were smacking the rev limiter on that 20/50 2 speed set up i gave you your making some big hp!

Not an apples to apples comparison because I run more gear in mine, but you wouldn't believe what we threw at this thing to keep it off the limiter.

That was the most fun I have ever had at the BL. Very exciting, I'm very impressed with the pull of this apex. All running 12-13pds of boost.
Shows that more boost doesn't always relate to more speed.
It was lots of fun seeing the speed increase every time that side panel came off.
Lots of sled's and a great time by all.
Thanks for letting me get my hands dirty.

Hi Lakercr, long time no speak, Congrats on the a$$ whopping. I have the 290 MCX kit on my 08' Apex as do 2 buddies of mine. We are at 2200' Altitude and we run 91 Boat gas and 15Lbs of boost. March 12 we have some drags comming up (600') and my Buddy is going in it. We all run the same set up (8BU-00) weighted up with steel plates on either side. Haven't seen a set of Daltons, Heelclickers or MCX Turbo weights pull as hard yet. Should be a good race, there are several guys coming with 400+ Hp with Turbos and NOS to come out of the hole in RX-1's, Cats and Apex's, not to mention all the guys like us running around 300Hp. So many time I see these guys pumping high boost numbers without good clutching. Makes me laugh when they ask how much boost we are running and don't believe us.......LOL
Great Job putting the Hardware back where it belongs!
