Just picked up a 06 mcxpress apex. It has a attitude box hooked up right now, not using the mcx box. Just a couple questions.
1. Who prefers the pure logic/attitude box over the mcx box? I understand you have a little more tunability with the attitude box on the hill...
2. When you first start the sled when it's cold, the thing won't hardly start. It sputters a little, I can tell it's really rich then it dies. I have to try time and time again, but when it's finally warm, it idles great. Does it sound like a co problem? How do I adjust the co's?

Here's what nate007 posted

Apex C0 Fuel Adjust:
- Install a wire (or paperclip) from ground to the pale green wire in the connector on the left of the delta box. This wire has no mating wire in the male connector and only needs to be grounded to the Delta Box.

Enter Diagnostic mode:
- With the key and kill switch off, press and hold both "Select and Reset" buttons then power up the gauge by turning both the key and kill switch on.
- Wait 8 seconds and the gauge will go blank except for "DI" in the display.
- Press "Select" to toggle between "DI" and "C0", Select "C0".
- Press and hold both "Select and Reset" 3 seconds
- Gauge will display "C:01", (this is where you select which cylinder you want to adjust)
- Press and hold "Select and Reset" 3 seconds and 0 should appear in the odometer section
- Press "Select" to increase the number (richer), "Reset" to decrease the number (leaner)
- Example: (10 would be richer) (-10 would be leaner)
- Press both "Select and reset" to chose C:02 and adjust the same as above (must do this for each cylinder)

You will want to go RICHER (positive numbers). Generally up 10 will be enough to get past any hesitation or stumble you may run into.

I had to search in Google to find good info. I saved it for myself as well, I may need it for my '08 Apex RTX :-)

Hmmm, you say it's rich and dies, and after many tries it starts when it's warm and idles fine, to me it sounds as it's lean, for example if you have trouble with the engine temp sensor, the ecu don´t know the engine is cold and don't go into cold start mode!
I have tempered alot with the co on several Apex, and regardless of setting up (+) or down (-) they have started just fine when the engine was cold, but when cold start mode ended then the co adjustment was noticed!
Just my 5 cent!

Very good points. I know for sure it's not lean because I can see and smell unburnt fuel when I first try to get it going. If it was the engine temp sensor wouldn't it throw a code? Could anything else effect cold start mode?

Then your right, it's rich!
Does it help to hold the throttle wide open when you crank it?

Ya, that was the only way I was able to start it the other day.

stalls or misses at idle

Next time take a small battery charger and hook it up when it starts and stalling and watch what happens!!
Dobeck boxes who builds them for everyone with that 3 button box gets power from injectors!!
Rapid bike 3 fires right up and keeps running and gets power from key switch.
Sorry but I am sure you will see low voltage on the EFI sleds won't run very good at idle and can foul plugs etc. Poor throttle response as well.

Thanks Dave. That thought did cross my mind. When I start it up I can see the lights on my gauges brighten and dim...low voltage. Could you pm me some details on the rapid bike set-up for a mc-xpress? I've been wanting to do rapid bike for some time now, but had a rx-1 untill now. EFI and time for timing control.

I haven't tried using the mcx box. The guy who had it did, and said it was running to lean on top end. I'll probably pull it off this summer and have it re-programed.

Was this the new type of MCX-box, if so they are programmable if you also buy their Display unit. The Display unit takes all data input you want, O2, TPS, Temps, Barometric, MAP, you name it. All data can be saved for download to a PC or PDA via USB, the data storage can hold up to 6 hours of logged data. What it don't do is letting you adjust fuel below boost.

It's the old type box. I like the new features though.
