I put this set up on my 06 ER after one ride when I bought it new. Let me first say that it cured ALL of my issues and Scott is one of the best people to deal with. He will always have my business. My question is, now that I am going into my second season with this set up and my motor is breaking in (900 miles) I was wondering how much top end and fuel milage I am losing. I saw 111 on the speedo yesterday on the trails (99.8 on the GPS). She probably had a bit more in her but we were pretty much tapped. I was pulling about 10,200-10,300 so I was right there. The coditions were flat but not 100% solid so I know I lost a lot there and my average milage is about 14.5. I thought I should see about 108-110 on flat trail. Could the savers be creating that much drag?

That sounds pretty normal. Gear that thing down to a 23 tooth top gear and your RPM will get into the high 10500-11,000 range and everything will get better. They don't pull as good below 10,500 as they do above! I don't think the ski savers hurting you one bit.

I thought I remembered reading here from someone who istalled these that they saw a huge decrease in top speed so they tool them off trail side and made an identical run and the speed was there again.

My Mileage went from 14.5 MPG with them on to 16.5 MPG with them off. Imperial Gallons.
for every action there is an equall and opposite reaction.if you gain something somewhere you lose it somewhere else. ill take better turning over a little top end any day.
oh , and i have the same setup on my 07 attak gt and get a little less fuel milage than the 2 attak gt's without this setup.

I agree 100% and I probably won't change it. I was just curious what the delta was between the 2 set ups. I might try it just to see how the sled handles without the savers more for the milage than the top speed. 99.8 MPH in the woods is about 40 MPH to fast in most cases

I just picked up an 07 RTX with them installed and was riding it around my yard just a few minutes ago along with my Rage that doesn't have them. I could definately feel the drag on the front of the RTX but not on the Rage............

Has anyone ridden Bergstroms set up with and without the ski savers on an otherwise identical sled? Is there a huge benefit other than preserving the life of your stock ski?

Skisavers shroud your host bar and that helps with darting. They also increase your keel depth, this helps with cornering. I run them on all my sleds. As far as hurting mileage or topend, I haven't seen it. I run HARD 90% of the time and regularly see 15-16 mpg and topend #s of 115-120. Did 1 run last yr. in the UP with Maxdlx and Familyman that I saw 126 mph. That is with me at 300+, my saddlebags and tankbag loaded for a week, PLUS, Maxdlx's bag strapped to the seat. Take it for what it's worth

On glare ice or a groomed trail, speedo or gps? The most I have seen is 111 on the speedo on a groomed trail

They do reduce top end, tested it on my sled. On ice maybe not but on hardpack they do. I had mine on for one day. Our group has 6 Apex's. I was the slowest in the group. I removed them right there on the lake and instantly was right with the group I bet they cost me 4 or 5 mph on top. This was not just one race but about 15 runs. I does dart a little more without them but I'm still happy with the Bergrstroms. I'll put them on again when they wear out, just without the ski savers.

Interesting. I made several runs last season that indicated 121 mph, 109 GPS. So far this year my best has been 114 indicated, 103 GPS. Now I don't recall if I was running the Savers when recording the higher speed numbers last season or not. I did go to them later on that season as well as shimming the stock skis. I will say when looking at the Savers at the end of the season they were certainly showing wear. How much did they save my skis by, I don't know. It sure isn't hard to figure out though that the Savers put the placement of the carbides and the Savers deeper into the snow over that without Savers, so there has to be more drag. I'm running Savers, Triple Edge and Slydogs this season so a whole new set of variables. Does the sled handle better, Yes. Do I need to go 109 mph, especially in a state with a 55 mph speed limit and at my age of 73, NO! But those little green horns do pop out now and again.

I love the improvements that set up made to my sled. Absolutely NO darting and the steering is effortless. I'm not too sure that its worth the extra 5-8 mph to sacrafice that. I'm not one to get into a dick joust about whos sled is faster anyway, I was more concerened with the fuel milage

Is it the actual ski savers improving the darting or is it the shims or triple points? I am not noticing any darting at all since removing the ski savers.
Here is my setup after much trial and error I have it where I like it.
SLP Powder Pros
bergstrom ski shims
bergstrom tripple points
limiter strap in the 3rd hole. Up from from the 4th
transfer rod 2 lines from min transfer
front spring tension backed off. 5 mm thread showing
