Mirrors for the Sidewinder

I'm with Fabio on this one.

I did quite a bit of research last season and chose the medium sport windshield with the Yamaha mirror kit. Super easy installation with the dimples marked on the back side of the windshield for drilling the mounting holes for the mirrors. The mirrors did everything that I expected (solid mounting, great clarity, and good field of vision) and look good.

Here's a chart that shows the difference in windshield heights that Yamaha offers:

A couple of pics of the medium sport windshield/mirror kit on my SideWinder...

Just make sure that you order both the mirror kit and the mounting kit as the mirror kit does not come with the required mounting kit. Go figure. :dunno:

Went to site and need to know if you have to order one or two mounting kits? I'm going to assume you need two but site doesnt list it. Mirrors are listed as pair, so this is reason for the question.

One more thing to consider. If you use a windshield bag, it will NOT fit behind the Winder window. I wont give up my bag, so I had to use a Viper window. YMMV.

They sure dont make it easy, do they ?

SideHogger....I'm pretty sure that you only need to order one mounting kit. I seem to recall that when I ordered my mirror kit last year that I only needed one mounting kit for both mirrors.

Like "swampcat" mentioned Yamaha sure doesn't make it easy do they?

I found this info that Jaret from Yamaha posted last year that might help anyone who's looking to add these windshield mount mirrors to their SideWinder...

One other thing that I found when I mounted the mirrors is that my handguards completely blocked the field of vision so you can't use handguards with the mirrors.

UPDATE: The diagram on the previous page is not updated for GT's. The production GT windshield is same as the production DX on the previous page, or accessory Tall (19.25")

Quoting from my accessory catalog for windshield mirror kit for the P/N's VX1R just posted (P/N's: 8LJ--F62A0-01-00 & SMA-8LJMR-AD-KT): the kit "works with the Medium Sport Windshield and the Medium Windshield only".

Well that settle that, back to the Doo or the powermadd handguard mirrors. Not giving up my Tall windshield for mirrors. Why a 14.5K sled didn't come with mirrors, at least as a option, is beyond me, but Sailor Joe and I had that debate several months back. BTW - I have a windshield bag

Those mirrors are nice , but I change windshields all the time...lol

Anyone find a good bar end mirror?

Doo has a adjustable hardguard mirrors

"Ski-Doo New OEM Handlebar Wind Deflector Hand Guard Mirror Kit PAIR 860200893" - $37 USD at Leaders. RockerDan installed the previous model doo FIXED mirror kit in his build thread, & that what I'm following. These are newer and are adjustable (I hope) doo mirrors (the mirrors are on order)

You may want to check with your Cat dealer for some better pricing on that combo. 2 of my friends bought that exact same set up for thier T-cats last year and I dont believe they paid that much....

Sab2020 my dad has the tall windshield on his winder and he just made his own holes for the mirrrors. Seems to work fine. I believe the windshield is just not as thick as the medium and medium sport.

Yes thanks I believe your correct but the old argument MAY be vibration. The thinner windshield MAY vibrate more? One of the fixes recommended is a foam pad between the shield and the mirror, not sure that helps.. I'll post when I mount the doo mirrors

I have a bag on mine and it fits fine behind the medium sport windshield

Me to! I am not sure why a windshield bag would not fit behind any of the Sidewinder OEM windshields?

Fabio, Sled looks great, where did you buy the mirrors ?

If anyone is selling or willing to trade med sport windshield or mirrors I'm looking. I have the low sport and low .

My riding buddy has these, in my opinion they are useless and I’m pretty sure he thinks the same way about them, when he’s leading I’m constantly seeing him looking back to see if I’m behind him or not.
Totally different then having a actual mirror, I guess it depends what you want in a mirror, only downside with the mirrors I have is you can’t use hand guards as they will obstruct the view but I don’t use hand guards as I learned the thinner the gloves the hotter my hands are.
