Mirrors for the Sidewinder

Fabio we shall see ....these aren't built into the handgraud they are bolted bolted, and the mirror glass swivels, but you may be right and that's sorta the reason I went through Amazon... for the UPS store return. I almost bought both the PowerMadd mirror kit and the Doo mirror kit to see whats better but the PowerMadd had a delivery charge... will let you know

Sab2020 I’m just giving my opinion to what I have found and not trying to put down what you want.
I tried my friends sled with the brp mirrors, they work but to a limit, if you just want to see a headlight at a distance then they are fine kinda, For me I want a clear as possible view what’s behind me with out turning back and these mirrors gives me that.
Don’t forget we ride on trails at moderate speeds ;) and looking into a small 2” mirror isn’t the easiest thing lol..
Hope they work out for you and yes let us know

Me to! I am not sure why a windshield bag would not fit behind any of the Sidewinder OEM windshields?
Would not fit behind the stock shield on the 2020 GT. The shield lays flat down by the mount screws in front of the gauge pod. Compared to the Viper shield, which has a bulge, if you will, to create extra room. Cat made 2 windshield bags, I have the larger one.

I'm with Fabio on this one.

I did quite a bit of research last season and chose the medium sport windshield with the Yamaha mirror kit. Super easy installation with the dimples marked on the back side of the windshield for drilling the mounting holes for the mirrors. The mirrors did everything that I expected (solid mounting, great clarity, and good field of vision) and look good.

Here's a chart that shows the difference in windshield heights that Yamaha offers:

A couple of pics of the medium sport windshield/mirror kit on my SideWinder...

Just make sure that you order both the mirror kit and the mounting kit as the mirror kit does not come with the required mounting kit. Go figure. :dunno:

I have been thinking about why I like this site and this most helpful post comes to mind. I think so many of us so appreciate the true HELPFUL information we get on this site ..... it’s guys like VX1R and this example post that always makes me feel like I am among helpful friends. Thanks to all of you and especially VX1R

Update; Wanted to give an update... the small doo mirrors didn't work with the powermadd handguards unless I do alot of extra work. You can get mirrors for those hand-guards but I'm going to go in a direction. Just going to find some small handlebar motorcycle/ATV mirrors and be done ... there's dozens of them

UPDATE: The diagram on the previous page is not updated for GT's. The production GT windshield is same as the production DX on the previous page, or accessory Tall (19.25")

Quoting from my accessory catalog for windshield mirror kit for the P/N's VX1R just posted (P/N's: 8LJ--F62A0-01-00 & SMA-8LJMR-AD-KT): the kit "works with the Medium Sport Windshield and the Medium Windshield only".

Well that settle that, back to the Doo or the powermadd handguard mirrors. Not giving up my Tall windshield for mirrors. Why a 14.5K sled didn't come with mirrors, at least as a option, is beyond me, but Sailor Joe and I had that debate several months back. BTW - I have a windshield bag
Check out Cats version of the mirrors, they are a little different than Yammies. My buddy has them on a tall shield on his T Cat. He says the shield does flex but not where the mirrors are mounted.

SideHogger....I'm pretty sure that you only need to order one mounting kit. I seem to recall that when I ordered my mirror kit last year that I only needed one mounting kit for both mirrors.

Like "swampcat" mentioned Yamaha sure doesn't make it easy do they?

I found this info that Jaret from Yamaha posted last year that might help anyone who's looking to add these windshield mount mirrors to their SideWinder...

One other thing that I found when I mounted the mirrors is that my handguards completely blocked the field of vision so you can't use handguards with the mirrors.
Thanks VX1R.........really appreciate the help and this forum!!!

Several years ago I put the Cats shield and mirrors on my Viper. You had to modify it a bit to fit but worked good. Last year I had to reinforce the shield with colored duck tape as its complete bottom mounting edge was full of fatigue cracking. So they are thinner, hence cheaper which also gives less durability.

I use the windshield with mirrors. They have worked great for 3 season, easy to see behind you at any speed and you can use muffs without any obstruction of view.
On the tall or medium windsheild?? Yam said they don’t fit on the tall one.
