sj, yes, you read correctly. We have two Fords, one with the double overhead cam v6 and a mustang with the double v8, and both specify 5w-20. And my wife's car starts fine all winter, as well as my truck and neon..I use it in everything to avoid having too many different types. Again, the oil is actually the weight of the low number..the polymers increase viscosity to the higher numbers. Problem is, polymers don't lubricate. I think this info was from Amsoil. In any case, the synthetic M1 is recommended and exceeds just about every standard exotic car manufacturers set...and I have a 98 neon with 150,000 miles still running fine, with relatively clean oil between changes. If it ain't broke,...........lol.

There is a Mobil Delo and a Mobil 1 Full syn. for Diesel Trucks which should be approved. I use it in my 03' Cummins and no issues, not that I would expect any.

sj, I have been running Rotella T full synthetic in our tractors, but I don't see it anymore at Wmart. The Perkins recommends Shell Rimula, but Rotella for Diesels is probably the same stuff. The C rated oils have special additives to deal with soot, other than that, there probably isn't much difference. Honestly, I don't see much difference in our tractors runnin regular or synthetic c rated oils...maybe the low rpm and torque hides the long term benefits. Gas engines pick up rpm pretty readily switching from regular oils to syn's. At least that's what I've seen.

yeah...walmart has the rotella ...but it's 15-40..
and since mines a turbo diesel they're calling for synthetic..

I just tried some diesel castrol dino...and it seems just as well as the full syn amsoil I have been running..but Im nervous so will switch back..

The 15-40 Rotella is non-Synthetic. All the Syn. I've seen is 5-40. The Rotella is great for soot but it will make your eye's water at a stop light (I don't have an EGR on the engine) not sure what the about engines with EGR's. The fume it releases is quite potent, it seems to die back the older the oil gets but never completely goes away. Correct Wally doesn't have Mobil full syn. you'll have to go to Murry's or something. I think Costco had it last time I was there.

The price is about the same at Murry's anyway, in fact they claim they will beat any one's price, so it shouldn't matter. They may not have the 0-30 needed for the sled in stock but they should be able to order it and have it within a few days. (staying somewhat on topic).

Why would you run a 5w-20 in your sled? Is it cheaper?

thinner oil ....better economy....easier startup

But the 20 will not protect good enough for the higher engine tempurature and the 5W ?? You can have a lower flow point with a 0W. To each his own I guess. Good luck to you, my friend!

actually the 0w is the lower flow point....nothing to do with viscocity..
the 20 weight would be a problem with dino oil...this is full synthetic racing oil...better shear strength and scuff protection than 40 weight...the days where thickness equal protection are over...this is why the auto manufacturers are running 5w-20 in many right from the factory..
