Anyone done it? Thought I remember seeing at one point that shortly after the viper came out that someone cut open the stock muffler and made it flow more but can't locate it. I have the stock muffler off mine and just thinkin of some free/cheap stuff to try. Got a buddy with a stock 7000 I'd like mess around some with, also gonna modify my stock air box and swap it out on his too.

LOL I think I still have the data on how to modify the old Exciter muffler........................

But I don't know how many people with 12k sleds are modifying there own mufflers ;)

Ya I guess I'm just thinkin that I have a buddy with a bone stock sled and I also have my stock muffler sitting on the garage floor and it'll never be used again so mights well play with something lol

I know Allen has this on his site , not sure if he will give any info but you could try .....
But I'm sure once you get it opened up you will see what to cut out !

Just have get that Quiet can from D&D. That thing is a beautiful work of art. Lol

Anyone know what the weight of the stock can is?

That's probably where I seen it, I'm sure once it's opened up it's all straight forward, just curious if there's any real gains or if it's just gonna be a hollowed out tin can.

My buddy is pretty cheap, plus he only rides like 300 miles a year lol he has a 2014 7000 that he snow checked, has had it 2 seasons which were both awesome winters and the sled has a total of 630 miles lol

If you look up past experiments (Exiter comes to mind as I have that info still) with exhaust you will find it is important to know what to cut out to preserve the torque curve. Kinda like just hacking away at an air box is not optimal. I am sure you will gain some but not as much as a tuned muffler like MBRP is. But by all means experiment as you know I believe in trying new things, just an FYI.

Our Red Viper still has original exhaust, after I modified air box and clutch I found no reason to spend the extra on exhaust. What I am saying is the air box was the big winner in all my testing.

I don't suspect much gains from it really, but if it gains just a tad on top end it'll be worth it. I probably wouldn't chop it up except it's just sitting there taking up space and collecting dust so mights well have fun with it.

Stock muffler = 13lbs 8oz
D&D barker muffler (race) = 7lbs 2oz
D&D quiet muffler (trail) = 9lbs 15oz
Sandale muffler (max flow) = 9lbs even

These are the weights I got when I weighed all these mufflers with my digital refrigerant scale which is fairly accurate to my knowledge.

I have 2 stock mufflers for sale if anyone wants to try modifying. PM me and I make you a great deal on both. Both in perfect condition, about 400 easy miles on them, only used to drive to church on weekends. June Special, Buy one get one free deal! Hurry while supplies last!

That's a god idea. I might havering ck mine as the ups tag on box sAid 6.42# for my quiet can.

My stock muffler has developed a hole in it with about 1800 miles on it.
I have Seen a few others on here that have also failed.
Not telling you how to do your mod, but if you are going to take the time to mod a stock muffler you might want to check it over real well and reinforce it some.
Adding or removing baffels might cause more problems with it blowing out like mine did
