mono w arm install

Anybody ever have a heck of a time installing the w arm to the skid on the Mono? After beefing up the arm nothing seems to line up. With some force I can get it mounted, however it is not centered within the skid. Off by about 1/8 inch. Im guessing this is unacceptable as the slides need to run centered in the track. Need Help.
 
Yep, My rails were over a 1/4 wider than the front pivot arm, I had to remove the collar bar then use a clamp to pull the frame rails together to get the pivot arm on. Then use spreaders to get the collar bar back in. The mounting bracket seems to be under a lot of lateral tension. I'm hoping it it just doesn't break on the first hard hit.

Mine is exactly like Tycho998. Has anyone else had this issue. I don't feel right reassembling it in this fashion as I know it's gonna crack the rails under such tension. Anybody ever measure the arm within the skid to see how centered it is? Mine is off by about 1/8 inch to the right.
 
It looks like the extra welding of the arm may have warped the rear of the arm slightly.Did the stock arm seem to not fit right up when it was removed?

I have my stock w arm out and it measures 7 5/16 inside to inside or 7.339 measured with calipers if you want to get technical.

I don't remember if the arm came out easy or if it required force as it was a long time ago. My arm measures 7 1/4 inside to inside so its not that far off from an unwelded one. Steve, can you mount your arm quick and lay it flat on the rubber bumpers? Then measure from the slide rail out to the end of the arm where it mounts to the tunnel. Do this for each side. I'm wondering if the measurements are dead nuts equal or if it's off a bit.

I would measure it that way but my skid is in my sled.I have a chromoly front arm that I made on my sled now.Thats why I have the stock one laying around.
 
I bet if you loosen the bolts that hold metal plate to rail(see pic) and shift the w warm in the way that it needs to go you can easily make up the 1/8" or so that your is off.Honestly though I doubt its ever going to hurt anything.

Anybody else have their skid out that could do these measurements for me?

Shifting it will make up the difference however as soon as the sled starts pounding down the trail the arm is going to settle back.
 
tlrguy if you dont mind what does the overall width of the front of your arm measure where it goes into tunnel ? minus the plastic bushings if possible.Im just curious how it compares to my stock arm. Thanks
 
It wasn't just at the mounting point that seemed to have a bad fit. Mounting the shock took a lot of work. Even after I ground off the powder coat, It was still 1/16" narrow, it took a big screwdriver and mallet to make it fit. I have removed the shock while the skid was still in the sled previously with no problem, there is no way I can do that now. I realize the arm is in a jig when it is welded and repaired but I think something has warped.

If you saw the pressure it took to pull the rails in, even with the crossbar removed, you worried too.

I don't want you to worry, but I would reconsider leaving your skid with the described pressures. The Mono rails cannot handle twisting forces very good as shown by idler wheel mounts. The rails are sure to crack. After you mounted the front arm, did it pivot freely or was it stiff?
