I had my RTX up on a stand last night and noticed that some of the welds on the monoshock are starting to show a little rust. I remember reading about frequent rusting on the 05s last year. Is there anything that I can do about it or is it just the way it is? Would it help to put some of that "rust eater" on any spots and then cover them with touch-up paint? Any advice or tips apreciated.

Same here, Also I use a degreaser to wipe off some of the xtra grease that always seem to get everywhere. No rust on the RTX yet, and none on my 02 viper

RUST ON THE MONO SHOCK
I noticed the same thing when I changed my spring. It almost looks like the weld is failing and the resulting bare metal is rusting. Hope these suspensions dont suffer the same problem with breakage as the old Pro Action " W " arms did.

FWIW, I keep an aerosol can of 3M Rustfighter 1 on the shelf. It's a clearish amber colored waxy interior panel coating/rust proofing spray. Not cheap, but works great for all kinds of things. It can be easily cleaned off with solvents. Eventually, it may wear off if in a direct constant spray, but it is pretty resilient overall if it's left to tack up. It also stays very well in little weld seams and such...

I am going to paint my suspension later this summer with POR15. It will never chip or rust again. This stuff is awesome and comes in different colors.

Anyone have an answer as to what, if anything, I can do about the rust that is forming now?

That would be a quick fix. "rust eater" Don't use WD40, it is oil and water that easily goes away. ZEP is 1 millions times better.

Rather than using WD-40, which will not last, your Yamaha dealer should carry a spray-oil that was first developed by Boeing for use on aircraft (I can't remember the name). It leaves an oil film and provides excellent protection. I sprayed my entire skid and A-arms early in the year.

I just called the dealer - it is under the Yamaha name and is called "Boeshield T-9." I doubt you will find anything that works better.
