Went riding again yesterday, forgot my camera at home
. Anyways we went to a ski hill 2hrs north of my place. There was a little better then a foot of snow at the bottom and between 3-4' at the top. This sled with a Turbo and this new track 162x16x2.3 is the craziest thing to ride. We were able to run on the ski hill runs as they haven't opened the hill yet. You watch the 800 2 strokes go and they go up the runs in the powder pretty good. Their skis are popping up here and there as they hit the moggles. There was 2 of us with Rx-1 turbos and this new track and when we come up the hill the skis leave the ground when you hit the throttle and they don't touch until the top or when you let right off, and this is burping the throttle, you don't need to pin it at all
There was a young fellow there with a brand new Rev with a 144" track on it and he could go up where there was tracks, but when he pulled out in the powder it went down like the sett'n sun. I came up the hill with the skis 3-4' in the air, in the powder, burping the throttle and stopped beside him to help him get unstuck. He says to me, that things goes pretty good hey, is it brand new? I said yea just breaking it in. He looked pretty depressed. He said to me, I should have bought one with a longer track. I told him yea you can't believe all the Bull$hit you read in the magazines, I read the article too that said a Rev with a 144" track would go anywhere and that it had awsome track speed. The part they didn't write was even though it had good track speed, it didn't have forward momentum. I was running 9lbs boost yesterday, I put in a Blue/Pink/Blue spring, the short one from the old style clutch, it was still reving 10,800 - 10,900rpm in the powder. This spring is 30 preload, 2 on the rate and 97 on the shift out. What the HELL? I can't believe how it's reving. I'm going to pull the weights and put washers on the rivets. I'm shooting for 10,400 to 10,500 rpm. Then the old girl will pull
The other guy with me that had an RX-1 Turbo had his boost on 17lbs. He said he's going to turn it back down to 10lbs as it was to hard to control weaving through the trees going up hill when you wack the throttle. (Too Fast) what a problem to have  For anyone that has an RX-1 mountain turbo or is buying one, get this new track. This thing is like a dirt bike to ride, you can pull wheelies and ride on the back bumper at will anywhere
Finally I have a sled that has WAY more power and traction then I need for the riding we do. THATS PERFECT.................

sounds good can`t wait have a 162 coming but I don`t think its the 16". If not it should still go. Btw what tunnel extension did you go with ?
The ski hill was it Powder King?

Hardcore, I built my own dove tail and modified the rear cooler so it fits up tight on the new dove tail. If you haven't paid for your new track, tell them you want the 16" wide with the 2.3 paddles. You'll $hit when you ride it. This track makes my 159x15x2" last year track seem like a smoothy. They are both Challenger design but NO COMPARISON in flotation and traction. This track is a MUST! Even if I didn't have a Turbo I would put this Bad Boy on. This sled is heavy, and this track is what it needs. I hope Yamaha reads this and puts a real mountain track on these sleds soon. They should at least offer it as an option.

what needs to be changed though the drop brackets or something like that right? to make it fit.

I built a new dove tail, changed the rear cooler to fit the new dove tail, made new steel drop brackets 1/3 the size of stock. (Same ones I made for my 03') changed the one bolt that holds the chain case on and run 8 cog whal brothers extraverts. I have NO racheting with this new skid and the track is loose compared to how tight I had to run my 03' and it had 9 cog drivers. P.S. I said last week that the rear skid was bottoming on the front, I now have the front spring on the second to the last stiffest setting and I have the rear springs on the "M" I guess thats medium? and I have the coupler nuts turned up to couple as soon as possible. You can just see the red starting to show behind the nut. (This means max) I'll see how it goes I may yet put in some plastic washers like the old style skids had to take out a bit more transfer. If yamaha reads this "DON"T CHANGE a THING" its easier to stop transfer then it is to make it transfer good.

I am putting my hartman tunnel extension on and have the same problem with the cooler, it hangs 3" below the extension. I am either going to make drop brackets for it, or make a new "pipe" cooler to run around the perimeter of the extension(underneath) Any of you guys done this? The easiest way will be copper pipe with soldered elbows. I also have some 1" aluminum pipe(conduit) and a welder but can't find any tight elbows in aluminum. I decided to stay with 8t drivers. Snowfever, that track must be tight under there, I'm guessing you have less than 1/4" between the top & front of the front cooler. I thought about the 16" but it rubs lengthwise when sidehilling worse than the 15. I only have the 200hp "baby" 4 stroke, so didn't want to rob too much power...LOL

Snow Fever, can short springs be put in the primary as a straight bolt in or do shims need to be added. I am thinking of trying My RX-1 Works advice on light preloads using a pink-gold-pink or a pink-blue-pink short spring.

I'll be out in the garage tomorrow to throw some more weight to the clutches and I'll take some pics. of the dove tail and what i did to the cooler. Yes you can run just the old style springs in the new clutches without shimming.

Here's some pictures of my rail extentions, dove tail and rear heat exchanger. On the heat exchanger I cut the spigots off the top capped the holes then welded the spigots on the sides. This way it fits flush to the dove tail. The rail extentions are made from T606-16 aluminum, I cut them out with my little band saw then I cut the slot for the axle with my router. The rear bumper is off an RMK and I bought a blue one and it matches really good.

I don't know if you would be interested bot Napa got me some heat srink for heater hose that would eliminate the metal hose clamps. it makes it look really nice and works great. Just slide it over the hose and use heat gun to srink. comes in all sizes.

Pinball Wizard, its tough enough to hold on hoses? That would be intresting. Is it the same stuff you use for wires?
