08' Nytro RTX 40th Anniversary - Stretched
After playing with Mono's for a number of years I feel really dumb about the skid in my RTX. Anyways, I have a couple questions on mods that I doing to my skid.

1) Were has everyone put their low snow wheels near the bend? I read the one tech post on how they put the low snow wheels 3" in front of the high wear area near the bend. That is the only thread or post I can find on here abou this mod. I am also installing (4) Excell wheels at the same time and it seems that 3" forward of the high wear spot might be to far foarward for the low snow wheels????

2) I have installed a set of HyGear Torsion spring spacers that I won at the Give Away ride last season. I am concerned about how spacers rubs on the upper wheel once you load the spring. When I jusst slipped the spacer over the upper shaft and bolted on the link arm, the one wheel spins fine. Once I loaded the spring by installing the front wheel and spring mount, the spacer rubs on the one wheel. This does not seem like a good thing to me??????

I appreciate any feedback and comments on the above two mod. Thanks, G.B.

I have low snow wheels right on the bend where I had a lot of slide wear.

I can post a picture to show you if you would like.

Yup, at the bend is where mine are at. Don't forget the Loctite! They will spin off.

Good luck!

Thanks guys! The attached pics show my hyfax wear. I just put the Excel wheels on last week. It would seem that I would be locating the Low Snow wheels pretty close to the Excel wheels. Maybe I should locate the Low Snow wheels on the front edge of where the hyfax starts to thin?

This sled had 139 miles on it when I bought it last January and I finished the season with a total close to 800 miles. Does the paint wear seem normal on these skids?

Thanks, G.B.

1) yes put the wheels where you have the tape.

2) i'd be concerned. i made my own torsion spacers & they don't have that thin lip on the outside. no issues w/ 2 seasons on em. (maybe modify urs?)

3) yes the paint doesn't last on the skid.

The tape is exacly where I put mine. I used to wear out the slides in 2-2500km's and I have alomst 3000km's on these slides and I'm going to be able to use them again this season.

My small wheel is close to my excell wheel too.

Thank you xt_gt and Yamahas. I appreciate your feedback on the Low Snow wheels.

As fo the HyGear torsion spring spacers, I called HyGear this morning and they told me that the spacer shoudl not rub on the wheel. So I need to take both spacers off and measure the pilot flanges to see if they both are the same. If they are, I will have to look at both upper wheels to see if something is out of whack. Ugh.... At least the skid is still on the bench. ;)!

Thanks, G.B.

Do you have a picture of the spacers/wheels?

I will take some over the weekend when I take off the spacers to get a better look at what is going on. The guys at HyGear where great and told me that they would replace the spacers if there is an issue with the pilot length. So we will see.

Thanks, G.B.

I installed a set of these spacers in July. Yes the small lip on the backside does rub but only on the bearing, which to me doesn't seem like a problem. I suppose if it should become a problem you could take a dremel and remove that lip. I also installed upper rear idler wheels since my original set had spokes and the bearings where seized so the wheel spun around the bearing. The new wheels, similar to the white design are solid exept for an access hole so you can reach the rear shock mount. I made sure to hammer them on until they bottom on the rear pivot's shoulder.

At least with the spacers installed you will essentially be centering the torsion on its mount, increasing its effective rate. Plus it looks better.

I installed the new set of spacers HYGEAR sent me and all looks great. The wheels spin free as they should. How I just need to touch up the paint on the front and rear arms, put a liittle polish on the rails, and install new hyfax. Can't wait for snow! G.B.

Pull up on the strap a bit

Yeah, I might adjust the limiter strap. It is set on the second holes as stock. I might not adjust it till after the first ride. I have made a number of changes this summer and want to see where I am at when the snow hits.

It will give you a little more ski pressure but not enougn to make that big of diff , depending on the miles on your sled they( it) (can stretch.
Good Luck

Pulling the limiter strap will not make a big difference in ski pressure? That would have to be as far from wrong as I have ever seen. It made a big difference on my sled.
