Hey guys, I just bougt a used skid plate and went to mount it today..I don't have any instructions. My questions are..what drill bit do I use for the 4 rear bolts?...should the 4 rear bolts have nuts or do they just go in blind....seems that they go into the oil pan area...I'm kinda worried about drilling up there..does anyone have instructions?

you need to order a install kit for it, should come with the rivnuts and the instructions, can't remember how much, but $15 us if i remember right, probably 100 cnd LOL, sorry u guys get so screwed.

Yes, you must pay close attention as you are drilling close to motor, so don't want to go too deep.

IMHO a roest skidplate is the way to go...went on in about 30 min, there is no snow build up and it will protect from a hard hit.

Thanks upei93 but I already have the Yamaha one..partially on...maybe the Roest Racing next season...got too many other things I NEED to buy...this skid plate cost me $40 and will do for this season..but thanks for the info..it is a nice piece...just not in the cards this year ;)!

I am not sure if you have read the posts about those rubbing on the oil filter or not. I would trim the ribs down before you install it. I had one on my sled and it almost rubbed a hole in my filter. I now have a roest.

Ya I have read that...but thought it was the stock plate that caused that...but thanks for the heads up...I may grind them down a touch and put door edge trim on them.

the ribs on the protection plate rubbing or hitting the oil filter from what I gather is from running a longer non stock filter...

Shaddow...you dont need the pieces youre missing..

heres what I did on my last and will do on my current xtx and apex...

I went to Lowes...I suppose you can go to any good hardware store...or canadian tire?

get rubber wellnuts..I believe I got 1/4-20's and then got a 1-1/4? stainless screw and a larger stainelss washer...drill the hole for the tightest it would allow the wellnut to enter...apply some anti sieze on the threads...as you tighten the screw the backside of the wellnut expands securely holding your skidplate

What you want to grind are the aluminum reinforcements on the stock cover. If you hold it up to the position you'll see where it could rub. It doesn't just rub on the oil filter but also the crank case pan (oil pan if you want to call it that). Another trick I did which seemed to help is to drill a 1/4"hole in the back of each rib on the skid plate. This will allow liquid to drain out instead of being trapped.

since one would run the skid plate...Id consider just removing the ribs ...

The ribs kinda hook everything together though. Just grind everything flat so it is just a flat piece of aluminum, grind the plastic down too just cause its easier. Problem solved, the easiest and fastest way to solve it.

As far as only the longer aftermarket filters getting hit, I got my filter straight from my yamaha dealer, and that filter was getting rubbed.

I run stock filters and never hit and i have a yam skid plate on i took the braces out at the strat of last year never had a pro. you will be just fine

ya...by the time you grind down the braces...the plate wouldnt do anything when considering the fact the skid plate is over it...if one is really concerned...have a machinist make the whole cover out of aluminum billet...
