Hey guys i have 10 xtx and am thinking of supercharging it with the stage 1 mpi supercharger with exhaust clutching and back country 1 3/4 track on it and anything else you think i should add. anyways the problem with me putting a supercharger on is that i can't always run premium is this a problem that should stop me from doing the supercharger? cause if i go up north for a ride or even my home town and run low they don't have premium i would have no choice but using regular
thanx brendan

I have seen guys put in octane boost, Not sure if that is with 87 or 91. They may add it to make sure the 91 is good grade. Sorry can't be more help

Octane boost like 104 only raises the octane a couple of points. If you have 91 octane it will bump it up to 91.2 or 91.3. I use it for dry gas reasons and the added is just a small bonus.

If you can,t allways get good fuel; especially in Arbourg area do not even think of boosting your sled.

Your thinking about the same as I did, and I am happy with the results. I have had a few times when I was in the area where all I could find was regular, I carry some octane booster with me for those times. Also keep your right thumb under control or lower your boost with the blow off valve, and you should be fine. I have run as high as 12# for short times with the regular fuel and the octane booster and so far so good. That being said, I usually only run between 8-10# boost.

so as long as you lower the boost down and taker easy you should be fine cause if i ride north i'm pretty sure there is no premium but in arborg i know there is. how many miles on the sled running boost?

Yes with conditions; for a stock motor.

Conditions are:

1] Has to be a good octane booster that actually boosts the octane to 91. There are threads on here that will point out the good ones. I use the strongest one by NOS. Torco seems to be the most popular.

2] Boost needs to be low. I have not gone beyond 5 lbs using 87 and octane boost.

3] No long WOT runs and preferably no runs at WOT. Drive it easy in the throttle department.

4] Do this as little as possible.

If it was me and I was going to be riding in areas with 87 fuel a fair bit, I would go for the headshim or stacked gaskets from the get go and be worry free. [or Meth kit]

I have had no issues using NOS octane boost on my Stage 1 RX 1. However I have only done it twice and never went beyond 3/4 throttle other than for a second or two a few times.

I am getting close to 2500 miles on it now, but about 2/3 of those miles were trail riding, I did a couple of saddlebag trips up north. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. We are having a lighting storm and my power went out for a little bit.

I agree with riceburner, If I were doing it over, I think I would put in the head shim or extra head gaskets, just for peace of mind. I may do this myself before next year and also put in the arp head studs while it is apart, also , just to be safe and then you can turn up the boost a little more and not have to worry. I would also go for MPI's new ECU, it sounds like it would make life a lot simpler if you are changing alt. very much. I am seriously considering that up-grade for next year also.

I run one in my turbo RX-1
I run -40 windshield antifreeze.
16 pounds boost on pump premium.
Here is the basic 411.

In internal combustion engines, water injection, also known as anti-detonant injection, is a method for cooling the combustion chambers of engines by adding water to the cylinder or incoming fuel-air mixture, allowing for greater compression ratios and largely eliminating the problem of engine knocking (detonation). This effectively increases the octane rating of the fuel, meaning that performance gains can be obtained when used in conjunction with a supercharger or turbocharger, altered spark ignition timing, and other modifications.

I run a 2010 xtx , supercharged , extraverts , cold air kit , clutched with Ulmers kit , Apex gear , studded 2 per bar , upgraded fuel kit , afr gauge , boost gauge, 5161 km this winter @5-6 lbs boost. Lkae running , trail mix , ran any fuel I could get, Premium when avaliable.

Runs fast , fun , Trade , sled for sled if yous is stock $4000 diff, Iwill trade it it for the 2011 eps apex.

Question for gsxr, are you going to add boost to a new Apex if you get one? I think it would be hard to go back to a sled without boost, once you have had one!!!

My apex with a MPI kit is freaking awesome. I need a trail reliable sled and it was turn key for 1500 miles this season. Looking forward to next year!!
