I can stop thinking of getting my new sled this fall.

I'm getting the mpi kit from Yamaha, and it does not come with gauges so I'm going to buy an afr and boost gauge combo in one gauge.

Can anyone tell me if there is a good place in the exhaust to put the afr bung?

Maybe pics. Thanks

Yes there is a bung already installed with a plug ready for the AFR 2 of them side by side.

Before you put any ole gauge on it I'd suggest asking some reviews on stuff, a gauge that doesn't work properly can be worse than no gauge at all if you're using it for tuning purposes. I know there's plenty of guys that have a lot of experience with different gauge setups, and maybe you're one of them, I just wanted to throw that out there cuz I know there's guys that have lost engines due to faulty gauges.

Stud is correct! stay away from the Koso all in one both Mrsled and Yamahatim had problems with them and Tim lost a motor due to his. (while Hauck) the builder was riding it to set the clutching. The New generation AEM AFR gauge has been very reliable and except for a little fogging has been spot on. I made a seal for mine and has never fogged since. I have had them on 3 turbo sleds and run a marine grade one mounted externally on a muscle car of mine.

I can tell you they help in tuning but are not the fool proof safety valve. I lost a motor in mine in 14 while the AFR ws reading 10.8 at WOT. But my sled had motor problems from new.

As far as the boost gauge goes I started with this dragon gauge but it does not reed in tenths and rounds up so if you are running 5.4 lbs it shows 5 and 5.5 and up shows 6. I switched to another gauge that reads in tenths but it only works half the time so I am searching now for another.

This is a pic of the mounting I did. I have rubber caps that go over them so it is very stealthy tucked back behind the pod and under the windshield.

I too didn't mind the aem afr gauge, with the exception it's hard to read in the bright light, ok it's impossible to read in the bright light lol and mine worked good for a full season, my aem boost gauge went wacky after 2/3 of a season, when it went screwy it would show it was building like 9 pounds at idle, 13 pounds cruising and 19 pounds wide open, so really no way of having any idea what was going on.

Your censor went bad u had that happen on one. The rest went yrs with no prob. They don't like high octane and rich burns I worry with my viper cause run 110 blend but 2 yrs no problem

Sorry was on my cell phone for that one and missed that it was the boost gauge yes I tried one of theirs yrs ago and had problems also. The AFR's work well

Ya I was thinking to myself, a boost gauge with a censor?? Hmmm lol I hooked a new gauge up quick after the aem one went bad and all was good so something with the gauge went screwy, mine always had trouble with moisture from day one, I could dry them out in a heated garage for the weekend and next time I would ride they'd fog

Their stuff is pretty good also just a bit spendy vs $158 for the AEM and then $40 for a boost gauge. the other thing to remember is if AFR or Boost side goes down you have to replace the whole gauge

So what I'm getting from this, is you guys are happy with the aem afr guage. But yet to really find a solid boost guage.

And yamahdog you make a good point about the two in one guage.

Yes on aem afr gauge, no on aem boost gauge as far as durability, but After one season I just don't like either because in daylight u just can't see them good, the numbers don't show up well.
That's where I've heard the innovative guages are good. But soo pricey

Both use the same Bosch LSU 4.9 Wideband oxygen O² sensor. And yes I am still not happy with my boost gauge and am now working on finding another because of my new project. I am taking the MPI stage ! out of the 14 and putting it into my 15 and having Ulmer build my 14 with the CAT xf 1100 turbo to blow closer to 20 #'s into it so I really want a good setup for both.

If you want top notch on an afr gauge I'd recommend the afr500 gauge from ballenger motorsports, it's a big digital gauge that u can see in even the brightest sunlight, and they're big letters, it's pricey, like $350 if I remember right, but much much cheaper than an engine. I got one sitting on the shelf waiting to go on mine as well as a Garrett boost gauge. I decided on these 2 setups from personal experience spending an hour of riding on a cat turbo that had this setup. Both gauges worked flawless, I could read them easily at any time, and after multiple seasons the owner of the sled never had any issues with either.
