I love my 03 RX-1 turbosaurus, rides as good as I want, only have 15 grand extra in it to ride as I like it...nothing much stock left on the sled. I'm not going to change it for anything new yet.
She outrides all there is, hahaha topspeed and accel is king.
BTW all new sleds are nice and each to his own on what sled to ride... I still stick with my old RXmodturbosled bought back in December 2002
Whatever you ride, I wish you good snow to ride on and happy new sledding year too all.

Turk said:1200 doo is a good groomed trails sled & thats where it stops. Deep snow performance is dismal & they need 2k worth of mods to hang with my apex xtx till 60 mph then it,s check out time. A stock 1200 doo is not even anywhere close to a new apex. I ride with 5 1200,s...3 modded & 2 stock. The modded ones are a lot faster then the stockers but nowhere close to my apex even after 2 k in mods (clutching/header/exhaust/timing fuel controller & torque stop) They tend to run warm in low snow conditions also.
Here is a pic of about 1/2 my group!
Wow dude, you are really out numbered...

You must ride on groomed trails or hard packed all the time because Turks reviews are much different and he is a respected member here as well as yourself. Turk says they cant even compete in deeper snow whats your take on that?
Honestly you must have the fastest 1200 out there because my tweaked 07 Attack stocker drives away from every 1200 and nytro that I have run against and I'm talked about tweaked 1200's and a couple of Nytros that I have set up myself. I.m sorry that you hated your new ride but I think you gave up on it way to fast and my next new sled will be an Apex XTX with boost.
What's tweaked Ernie? Clutching/airbox/PC3? I know you will probably wax me but I'd like to run you anyway...just need to get my clutching set up...you able to come up to Scugog?
Ryan come down to the river and south end of Simcoe this weekend and I can show you. Give me a call anytime if you need some help.

Buying furniture and completing the house is really one of the ways on how to spent fortune now days. I guess the house isn't really a house if there isn't any furniture inside it. Anyway your lucky with your wife that she is concentrating in making your home a nice place to live in.

yamahahaapex said:how many miles on xtx is the biggest question. Well never really know but im only at 450kms and im finally getting over 10,000 rpms, way less than 10,700 but its still breaking in. Im sure you know that but how many did you have on it?
I had 335 miles on it and broke it in the Mototune way. It was running 10300 at the hit and climb to 10,700 pretty quick. I had it to 117 on the spedo and it was running 10,900 at that speed. It felt very powerful and fast where the Ski-Doo feels tame and less stressed. But they both were side by side till 90.
I've been riding with my neighbor and his 128" std 2011 Apex and he and I are locked side by side past 100 MPH. My XR1200 is no slouch for sure. But I set my throttle to pull wide open right off the bat. Ski-Doo only has them set for 72 percent max open from the factory. Not sure why they do this as it is faster at wide open for sure. Otherwise mine is bone stock other than the hard compound belt off the summit. Could this be the reason the others don't run as good? More then likely, but I do know how my machines run against others including my "old" 2011 Apex XTX. Yes, it was faster up top but I didn't like the machine and its faults. I knew which machine was better and I kept it and sold the other.
My neighbor informed me yesterday his new 2011 apex is going up for sale. He claims to be happy with it but apparently he is not if he is going to advertise it for sale with 280 miles on it. I know he is not happy with the 40 extra pounds that has been added along with the 40 pounds of snow in the suspension and tunnel it carries. I also don't think he is too happy that a ski-doo four-stroke can run right alongside either.

Nice story.
In our group of 4 1200,s even the exhaust/header/rb3 & clutched sleds can,t stay with my xtx. The stock ones are not even close...anywhere. Sorry...story don,t hold water!!!!

Glad your is much faster than the group you ride with Turk. I don't need to tell stories. You may have people buffaloed here at TY, but you have lost all credibility with me. Everything you post contradicts what I have seen on this end, with machines that I own! From fuel mileage reports to acceleration reports.
Your report of how good the new machine is was one reason I bought one. Sometimes I think you are paid by Yamaha. I don't know know how you can be such an expert about all brands of machines having only owned Yamahas. I on the other hand have tried them all, I owned three brands of machines in one year. Sorry the truth hurts you so bad Turk. I didn't like the new "Game Changer" and now it's gone. It doesn't appear to be just me either. Banks has his for sale and now my neighbor, I see a couple on E-Bay too. If they were so great would people be trying to sell them with so few of miles on them? And where are the rave reviews? Your the only one raving from what I see. All the reviews I see has some type of complaint in them. No one raving about them like they are on dootalk about the XR1200. The Ski-Doo just plain works, and I think deep down you know it does.

I ride with the same 6-8 doo buds every weekend
4 1200,s 2 modded & 2 stock
2 800 etechs
2 800R,s.
We switch sleds a lot
We race a lot
We fill up at the same pumps.
They read this forum & would chime in if i made any false reports.
Your results are way different then mine. I made a few minor suspension & clutching changes that made big differences.
I have 600+ miles & enjoy looking forward to a ride every weekend.
last ride 1 1200 crapped out a stator
1 1200 had an oil leak from the plastic gear in the oil pump
1 800R went into limp mode mysteriousely 10 miles from home but also somehow fixed itself.
That is 50% issues on 6 doo sleds.
I have ridden with this same bunch of guys for 10 years on yamahas & never had 1 serious issue.
Lotsa small stuff but nothing that ended a ride early or was catastrophic!

You also have a Cobra track on your XTX and that alone to the C-note is worth 3-4 sled lengths over a ripsaw.... Stock for stock, I'm not sure you would see the same outcome...

People are free to ride whatever they want. I have Owned Arctic Cats Z1 turbo, 13 Yamaha four-strokes including the latest Apex XTX and two Ski-Doo XR1200's. I post what I find on my end and question Turks findings as they are way different than my results.
Perhaps your riding buddies need to open the throttle plates on their XR1200's from the less than 3/4 opening as delivered from the factory. Because my riding buds and I do the same racing and fuel comparisons on this end and they are nothing like what Turk posts here. I have owned these machines myself and have different first hand results than Turk. He is always trying to make the Yamaha look superior. I think he is paid by Yamaha! I call it like it is on any machine good or bad. Go back and see what I had to say about the Cat on Hard Core Sledder, all the while I owned it! Same for the Doo and Yamaha. I will report the good the bad and the ugly. I have reported bad things with ALL OF THEM! But only one thing with the Ski-Doo and the belly pan being driven into the clutch. I was going way to fast with the turbo and hit a large wide dip doing 120 and front springs set at their softest setting. But hey, I won the race in front of the RX-1 turbo!

As you should with an extra turboed 200cc in your favor. I have rode with Turk myself on the Manitoba TY ride and I dont believe for one minute he would not post the truth. With his knowledge of clutching he could easily get a lot more out of a stock apex with clutching alone compared to stock. His Apex would be tuned to the point of changing things and tweaking the clutching even as it gets stronger while breaking in. I think you two are going to have to agree to disagree and for the record I have no problem believing both scenarios as you both have no reason to lie and are well respected members. Maybe a mid way trip is in order for a good ole showdown. That would be great.
