Old? No, he found out the Apex XTX was no faster than his Ski-Doo four stroke up to 90, and he also didn't like the fact the Apex XTX still handled and rode no better than the old 07 Attak even though it was 30# heavier then the old Attak. He didn't like burning slides off every 250 miles, poor handwarmers, ski-lift, low seat height, poor wind protection or the loud exhaust/track drone too much either.
He liked how the XR1200 Ski-Doo Renegade did everything much better than the new Apex except top end speed.
The Ski-Doo made him smile and the Yamaha made him upset because it had the same old problems his previous Attak had. He may have been fine had he not spent a year riding the Ski-Doo.
He is very happy to have sold the Apex XTX and to have bought another Ski-Doo four-stroke. Last I saw him he was grinning ear to ear and raving to his friends and his wife how much he loves that Ski-Doo.

I hope you can also keep us informed on what it does not do as well and what breaks down on your xr1200.? The only down point mentioned so far on the doo is its poor top end. What about gas mileage, fit and finish, belts?

Knapp, I think you'll find alot of people that agree/disagree with your findings. Slides havent changed mine are burnt down but theyll last me easily 1500kms if not longer, handwarmers are fine for me at -25c at full on. No problem with ski lift at all on the trail whatsoever compared to my 07. After riding the apex chassis since 06 and hopping on my '11 its head and shoulders above its years it replaced in the quality of ride and how much more confident it made me feel as an agressive rider. A few adjustments I made on the suspension for the ride and I have never cornered easier, faster than I have before. Im pretty impressed with it, both on trail and hitting the drifts. Its an impressive machine that I love to drive as people look and stare at it like its a lambo

Where do I say the Doo has poor top end? I said it's the only place the Apex is better, and it's only by a couple MPH.
The Doo has better grip warmers on low than the Apex on high, Doo has better fuel mileage and a 10.6 gallon tank vs the Apex 9.1. The Belts last just as long as a Yamaha using the hard compound belt. I ran my turbo XR1200 last year for 2100 miles and didn't have a lick of problems. It also put a smile on my face.
Of course they will disagree with my findings here on TY, it's the blue goggle crew, no one here has never owned a XR1200 Ski-Doo to compare it too. If they did, they certainly wouldn't disagree with my findings. Could be it is better than the old 07, but it sure doesn't seem like it to me having been on the Doo for a year.
Glad you like the new Apex, I didn't and I know there is no way ever, in any conditions, it corners, handles, steers or rides as good as a Ski-Doo XR. There were other things I didn't like about the Apex after owning the Doo also. I didn't want this to turn into a fight so I'll stop here. Lets just say I feel Yamaha missed the boat on quite a few items and lied to a bunch of people with all the things they "fixed or improved". Oh well, at least I tried it.

must be getting old
Careful snoway, I'm old but I wouldn't give up the excitement of my Nytro XTX for a xr1200. To each his own I guess.

Im sure it will take top spot in the BIS in Revy. No mention of weight I wonder how heavy it is? I still remember the image doo had of the 4 stroke not too long ago and now the whole company is converting to 4 stroke. I guess all of them have 4 strokes now and its funny how they all said how bad they are and yet they are all making them now. So i guess in a few years I can expect to see all of them with power steering too. They are still following the lead of Yamaha no matter how you look at it.

Common guys.. Mike has been around snowmobiling for a long time and gave you his comparison of what he disliked about the new Apex. I personally was looking for his review of the new Apex and how it stacks up against the XR1200 and previous Apex model.

1200 doo is a good groomed trails sled & thats where it stops. Deep snow performance is dismal & they need 2k worth of mods to hang with my apex xtx till 60 mph then it,s check out time. A stock 1200 doo is not even anywhere close to a new apex. I ride with 5 1200,s...3 modded & 2 stock. The modded ones are a lot faster then the stockers but nowhere close to my apex even after 2 k in mods (clutching/header/exhaust/timing fuel controller & torque stop) They tend to run warm in low snow conditions also.
