My first 50

Thats why I am waiting because we only had a little bit of snow. My 2020 has 2 miles on it from me going once around the block to try it. I won't ride it again until, I can take it somewhere where I can really rip on it. The first 25-50 miles is the most important to a fast motor.

you guys got me confused...I thought you broke an engine is slowly and keep the rpm's varied and not put it under high load until first engine oil change.

I've done buy the book and wide open from day one. Wide open wins every time. Buy the book = SLOW!!!! LOL

I recall someone who broke a 2003 RX1 in by the book which turned out to be a major oil burner.

I’ve always done it by the book and never had a problem, sold my 07 apex gt with over 25 000 on odometer and never burnt an once of oil.

You're dead on Mike and for the more conservative types, the motor has already been test run at the factory to make sure it's ok. You won't have a defective motor that's going to blow up by breaking it in hard.
Mine had NOT been run, because there was no carbon or any residue in the turbo. Dealer did not even run it for pid, even though they said they did. I know because I had it apart before I rode it.

My sidewinder will be the first sled i have using the 8jp belt. The only way i'll be able to ride it hard is to use a different belt or try to find a used 8jp. I can take a 8dn off another sled and use that for the first 50 or so miles to really break it in. Still need snow first any objections

I used my old Gates carbon belt off of the old Viper.

I've broke in engines both ways and have seen no difference. I prefer to run them hard, to increase cylinder pressure and seat the rings. I am religious/anal about warmups. My sleds don't move until the exchangers are warm.

Admittedly, the 03 had oil consumption problems. However, my experience was that the guys who didn't follow the break-in procedure had far less issues with oil use, if any at all, compared to the riders that did.

Has anyone break in hard and experienced any problems or bad side effects?

Never. Unless you consider running off the trail from holding it open too long on my new 1200 ski doo when coming upon an unmarked tee in the trail. I got lucky there with very little damage.

Read this and live by it. You will have a much faster machine vs breaking it in easy. Anyone that's done it will tell you the same.

Agree 100%. From crotch rockets, sleds, cars, boats, trucks, everyone I broke in by the book, PIG! Everyone wide open was fast. For example, 2 FJ 1100's, mine broke in easy with jet kit, and exhaust. My buddy pounded his bone stock FJ as soon as he left dealership on one wheel! Needless to say, he could beat me any way we raced! From then on, WIDE OPEN ON EVERYTHING I'VE OWNED! Lesson learned. Lol.........

Right to the bar! I like to spend one day running a wide open field. Got lucky on my 17 as we had EARLY snow and was able to run wide open farm fields for proper break in. Safety is huge factor on the Winders.. The first feeling I had during hard break in runs was "damn this thing is SNEAKY fast". You can get into trouble fast on these.
