I took an Rx1 airbox and wire mesh to make my Ram-air setup.

What is protecting my motor...Wire mesh, 1" thick neo-foam and filter material.

1st, printed a template on cad and used it to cut the rx1 lid.
2nd, cut the wire mesh from th rx1 air box.
3rd, drilled the rx1 lid and used plastic repair to mount the mesh to the lid. Letting the plastic flow thru to adhere better.
4th, final sand and paint.
5th, drilled the rtx lid and covered with filter material, glueing the filter material directly to the rtx lid covering only the holes.
6th, drilled thru both lids for the mounting bolt. (used a nylon lock nut)
7th, cut neo-foam filter material to match the inside of the ram-air lid.
8th, sandwiching the neo-foam and bolted down the ram-air lid.

The neo-foam and wire mesh will keep all snow and debree from getting into the ram-air and the filter material will keep snow dust and water out of the stock air box.

Realy nice! :bling

I Wonder how could you test a ram air on a dyno, maybe if you put enough fan in front of the sled to create a 100 mph wind ??? :tg: :moon:

nice pice there, have u try it out yet and any hseitation on throttle ?

The throttle is crisper then stock. Other than 100'+ runs not to sure. But off the start there is a difference.

More air = more power....therefore showing up on the dyno!

very nice work!

I think you need to open the lid up more though...too small and few of holes?

Should see a difference on the dyno, and major difference at wot across the lake..imo

That's a great job ;)! Did you Add more fuel to the EFI? just replace that steel bolt and your gold. :bling

I didnt want to open it up too much until I know snow isnt going to be an issue.

I am looking for a stock airbox lid just incase.

I didnt adjust anything yet.(fuel)

I updated what I did and how it came out.

I had rich plugs, so this airbox mod should lean it out a little and shouldnt have to change any fuel settings. I will keep an eye on the plugs to see if anything needs to be changed.

worries....reasons for small holes and not complete air box cutting

More air = more fuel required
bigger holes in airbox = more chance to get water in the air box
bigger holes = noise

Guys, with these holes, you get much more engine noise then stock.

Also, I cut the back tabs off for easy off and on. I plan on getting the stock box and trying runs with the gps and letting everyone know the results. Thanks for looking.

.

I will be experimenting with cutting back the snorkels...might lessen the air noise and actually make a straighter shot into the throttle bodies

I have a feeling it would be worse with noise. The noise we are getting is coming out of the engine straight thru the throttle bodies. If you shorten them you should get more air flow, but more noise??

The noise that I am getting isnt bad, just different then stock. Not as bad as taking the airbox lid off while it is running.

I ran my filters on my rx-1 without the horns and with the horns. Way quieter with the horns. They are a certain length for hp reasons. Maxdlx

is that screen?.....i wouldnt be running that with screening..snow will get thru that....

you really need to do what I did and use a PREFILTER material that the mountain guys use...no snow can get thru it.

also, those small holes IMO wont make much difference in performance.

check my thread...

Just my 2 cents

he uses the screen AND SOME OPEN CELL FOAM AND THE PREFILTER...

he might enlarge the holes...although he has already picked up a hundred rpms..
