My thoughts on my sidewinder ltx se. First 2 rides

Well the update is that it is nothing serious, no oil leaks, know know issues other than the sd-30 code and no know fixes, check all electrical connectors and oil line clamps and see what happens, a few of us are going to go north on a day ride today, ill report back tonight what she does

It's a new sled, and besides what winterwolf said about varying your throttle position during break in(it's ok to open her up, you want the rings to seat, just don't hold her open for a stretch), I would also check fluids every 50 miles for the first 500 as my maintenance. You will find your coolant and oil get some consumption during break in. My SW took less than half a quart of oil more during break in in the first 150 miles or so. Coolant was more like a quarter quart or less. Buddy who bought his SW at the same time and ran through the same break-in rides as i did experienced similar consumption, but also had the coolant hose leak you experienced. He tightened the clamp and he just did 800 UP miles no problem this past week. Just stay diligent about your fluid checks before and after rides for the first 5-700 miles. Also be sure to check your fluids with the sled warmed up. Your dry sump oil system will show the oil over the max until you warm it up. It will also make gurgling noises as oil returns to the can. Coolant is ok to check cold.

Good luck and enjoy the sickest ride out there!

Time to put the hammer down!!!! If all else fails, drive it right into a clump of trees and claim it on insurance. Lol!

Or let me know where you're staying. I'll bring an empty trailer....if you know what I'm saying.

Well ride 3 equalled a big let down again, its good in the woods and twisties, but as soon as i take it up over 75mph for 2-3 seconds it flips on the oil light, shuts off and its the same sd-30 code bs. Still got on 145 miles today but its pretty embarrassing having a $12k 200hp sled that cant run over 75mph. Back to the dealer tomorrow

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that...that is embarrassing and so not fun!! Get that thing back there at the dealer, and have them figure it out...that would make me livid for sure!!! I hope you can find some solution soon. They need to make this right for you.

12 thousand dollar sled??? That amount is low for most Winders(maybe you bought used?). The top of the line Winders are almost 17,000 dollars...and even more reason that these things should run fabulous.

Can you cross the border??

Lol, I know, your Canada prices are just insane. 16,699 for the RTX 50th here in USA. I feel for Almond1000...this is not right.

Finaly someone talking my language, i guess FIBS think alike, lol

That is depressing for sure. Mine is going to Excell in the am for the 500 mile oil
chain case oil and questions as to why mine has been uneventful, thankfully, and others seem to have issues. Do dealers make a difference, beyond the normal assembly?? Makes me wonder..

Oh ok, nice find on the leftover..nice price. Again I hope you find out what is wrong. This thing should be cruising at 75 effortlessly and you should be bursting up to 105-110 mph like nothing (dependent on conditions of course).

Ill let everone know what comes about with the code sp_30 hopefully next week, i called the dealer again this morning, and i wasnt overly happy with the reply "ride it more and see if it keeps acting up"
"We really dont have an answer for you"
So i decided to call another dealer, whose reply was "we have never heard of a sw doing that" we arent sure what to say. I wasnt calling asking for advice, i called because i want them to fix it lol. I usaully dont get too worked up over this stuff but after dealer 3 didnt want to take it in i decided to call yamaha customer service, her reply was take it in, ask them to look at it and it is there job to call us for tech support if they are stumped. Fair enough, finally dealer 4 was awesome, spent about 30 min on the phone asking questions, and told me bring it up, we will dig into it and if worse comes to worse we will call yamaha for tech support. I guess i was suprised 3 others didnt want to touch it. I dont care if its a cat with yamaha decals or not, if it says yamaha a yamaha dealer should be standing behind it. And dealer #1 is where i purchased the sled.

Dealers definitely make a difference!
I bought two at the same time. A leftover new 17 LTX SE- no troubles, not a single hiccup and I drive it hard. My wife drives the 18 RTX 50th Anniversary Sled and the one afternoon I drive it? Boom goes the oil reservoir. Go figure. She treats the damn thing like it's a cotton ball. Won't go over 100km/h. Now, you would've thought Yamaha had the problems sorted out for 2018.

Can you cross the border??

I have....gets a little tricky coming back. Lol
